For over a decade, Dr. Ming has focused on human perception and cognition models, and has become a hugely influential proponent of the use of technology to gain insight into the minds of individuals, said Sheeroy Desai, co-founder and CEO of Gild. She has led an array of breakthrough social science initiatives, including the creation of unique equations to understand how people present themselves digitally and engage online. Dr. Ming is the founder of Socos, an educational technology and data mining company that makes people fundamentally smarter by combining machine learning and learning sciences. In her role at Gild, she will lead data mining, analytics design and algorithm development for Gild Source, the organizations flagship recruiting technology for identifying and profiling developer candidates. Dr. Ming earned her doctorate in Psychology and Computational Neuroscience from Carnegie Mellon University and the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition researching information theoretic models of sensory and attentional processing. She earned a B.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience with honors at UCSD working on developing an algorithm for reading human facial expressions from video, with additional application as attention monitors for automated tutoring systems.
