EMCO Software plans to release EMCO MSI Package Builder version 5 at the start of 2013 with a brand-new user interface and new installation repackaging features.
EMCO MSI Package Builder is MSI creator software designed for network administrators who need to deploy Windows applications across local networks. The application allows network administrators to create MSI packages ready for silent remote deployment quickly and easily. The application has a visual user interface for creating MSI packages, which will be improved and simplified in version 5. The new user interface will be based on the Ribbon UI concept and provide network administrators with simple editors allowing to create MSI packages without writing scripts and studying MSI specifications.
Network administrators can use EMCO MSI Package Builder to convert their existing non-silent installations into silent MSI packages that can be deployed remotely and automatically using Active Directory Group Policy or other remote software deployment tools. The standard installation repackaging method is based on tracking the file system and registry changes. Network administrators can activate changes tracking in the application and then install an original setup file on a local PC. In this case, EMCO MSI Package Builder can track all the changes performed by the monitored installation and generate a silent preconfigured MSI package that will include the captured changes.

This technology works very well for repackaging Windows applications, but to repackage driver installations and other system software such as OS patches, another technology should be used. One of the most important features to be introduced in version 5 will be the support of original installations wrapping into MSI packages. This approach can be used if an original executable setup file supports the silent installation mode. Network administrators can create an MSI package that would wrap the executable setup file with its dependencies. During installation, the MSI package executes the wrapped setup in a silent mode to ensure a silent install. This technique enables network administrators to get installations in the MSI format preferred by most deployment tools and allows avoiding installation repackaging. This method can be used to distribute driver installations and system software remotely if the original setups support silent installation.

EMCO MSI Package Builder 5 will be released at the start of 2013. Beginning from February 2013, the new version of the application will be available for public beta-testing at http://emcosoftware.com/msi-package-builder and http://emcosoftware.com/msi-package-builder/convert-exe-to-msi. EMCO MSI Package Builder 5 will be available in several editions with different functionalities and prices. The prices for the new version of the application will be announced on the release date.
