ANT Wireless (“ANT” http://www.thisisant.com), a division of Dynastream Innovations Inc., today announces ANT+ Android USB support providing the link for millions of existing and future monitoring devices to existing and future Android phones and tablets. Compatible with versions of the Android platform from 3.1 and above, the ANT+ support of the Android USB Host feature dramatically expands ANT+ data connectivity options for sport, fitness and health. Consumers, developers and sensor manufacturers all benefit as ANT+ USB support for Android opens additional opportunities in mobile phones as well as larger format tablets for emerging applications in medical and health. This is possible using ANT USB sticks already packaged with some ANT+ devices.
There are millions of people using ANT+ devices and its important that we create the ability to sync their data with as many portals as possible, stated Rod Morris, Vice President, Dynastream. With our new Android USB support, consumers worldwide get the very best of all worlds: they connect market- leading smart phone/tablet technology with an existing interoperable ecosystem. Whether thats an activity monitor transferring data to a phone, or a blood pressure cuff talking to a tablet, its all about giving people reliability, ease and optimal solutions that work together.
The ANT+ Android USB support links the most advanced sport, fitness and health solutions with already-purchased tablets and phones as well as future products. Anyone can install the ANT USB Service from the Google Play Store along with the standard ANT Radio Service. A drop-in update enables application upgrades with no redevelopment work. With this update, all existing Android applications which previously required built-in hardware to connect to ANT+ devices can enjoy the benefit of USB support.
Developers may now create new and unique applications for the Android platform utilizing an extensive array of ANT+ sensors including heart rate, blood pressure, continuous blood glucose, weight, foot speed and cadence, bike power, audio or video control, and temperature. Applications may also target ANT+ home automation and asset tracking use cases.
Fundamentally, we want to enable the best means of collecting and transferring data to the millions of ANT+ consumers, as quickly as possible, added Morris.
