Emerson Network Power Configurable AC-DC Power Supplies Meet Third Edition IEC 60601 Medical Safety Standard

All Emerson Network Power configurable ac-dc power supplies that complied with the second edition of the standard now also fully comply with the requirements of the third edition, and include at least two means of patient protection (MOPP). Cubic Global Tracking Solutions, the asset visibility solutions provider for Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), announced today that a variant of a Cubic product now being by US Army logistics personnel to keep track of Army vehicles in Kuwait is being studied for use by the U.S. railroad industry.

Cubic recently participated in a test of its ultra low-power mist mesh (802.15.4) network technology to demonstrate that mesh networks can provide significant advantages to the rail industry, including reducing the risk of derailment and better utilization of rail cars. During the test, Cubic mesh components were placed on both stationary and in-motion railroad trains.

We believe our technology has great potential to reduce risk in rail operations because it allows rail operators to continuously monitor and report the position, status and security of their assets, including cargo doors and wheel bearings, said Michael H. Bigbee, vice president of business development for Cubic Global Tracking Solutions. Cubics network has the potential to send an alert from wheel bearings to the engineer quickly enough to prevent or reduce the consequences of derailing. And it can also help reduce the amount of time containers and rail cars are inactive in the rail yard.

Cubics technology can increase operating safety and efficiency by providing real-time data and analysis on crucial operational data. At present, only very limited rail car serial number information is captured when trains pass stationary monitoring and communications equipment.

The rail industry needs a system independent of trackside equipment for real-time monitoring and event notification.

Mesh networks integrate sensors, nodes and communications gateway to provide near real-time data transmission. Incorporating wireless mesh, satellite and cellular communications, Cubics network features both real-time monitoring and instant reporting.

Cubics Mesh Asset Tags are a key component of the mesh network being tested. These tags are currently being used to track the position and status of U.S. Army tactical vehicles parked in Kuwait while awaiting redeployment or return to the United States. In the commercial rail environment, they will give rail operators the ability to monitor wheel bearings, weight and balance, temperature, humidity, door state, G-force, movement, tanker car hatches and valves, and rail support equipment.

Emerson Network Power Announces New Triple-Output 45 Watt Power Supplies with Medical and IT Equipment Safety Approvals

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity, today announced two new triple-output open-frame ac-dc power supplies, the NPT43-M and the NPT44-M. Extending Emersons successful NPT40-M series, these new models are suitable for a wide range of IT equipment, medical, light industrial, instrumentation and process systems, as well as low-power dental and laboratory equipment.

NPT40-M series power supplies are rated for 45 watts power output with convection cooling and up to 55 watts with forced air cooling. The NPT43-M offers 5, 15 and -15Vdc regulated outputs while the NPT44-M offers 5, 12 and 24 Vdc regulated outputs.

The expanded NPT40-M series carries a comprehensive set of worldwide IT equipment (ITE) and non-patient contact and non-patient critical medical safety approvals. These power supplies can accommodate operating temperatures from minus 20 to 50 degrees Celsius at full power and as high as 80 degrees Celsius with de-rating. They feature an industry standard 2 x 4 inch (51 x 102 mm) footprint, and a height of less than 1 inch (25 mm), making them ideal for 1U high portable and rack-mounting equipment.

Emerson Network Powers NPT40-M series has a wide-range universal input capable of accommodating any ac voltage in the range 90 to 264 Vac. It can also operate from any dc input in the range 127 to 300 Vdc, enabling it to be used virtually anywhere in the world. The NPT42-M power supply requires less than 74 W of input power, and inrush current is less than 50 A peak at 230 Vac input.

Emerson Network Powers NPT40-M series power supplies fully comply with the international EN 61000-3-2 standard for harmonic emissions. They feature built-in EMI filters (CISPR 22 Class B) and meet rigorous international EMC standards, including FCC Class B, EN 55022 class B and VDE 0878PT3 Class B for conducted noise. Key safety design aspects include fuses in both the line and neutral connections, and a safety-ground leakage current which does not exceed 275
