The Liebert NXL UPS is UL and CSA listed and is available globally for 60 Hz applications480, 575 or 600VAC.

Details: The Liebert NXL UPS is the first large transformer-based UPS system to be tested and UL listed and labeled to UL1778 fourth edition specifications. The highest-capacity transformer-based UPS in the industry, Liebert NXL 1100kVA/1100kW UPS provides the industrys best operating efficiency at typical load levels in double conversion mode with up to 98 percent efficiency when operating in Intelligent Eco-Mode.

The Liebert NXL UPS battery ground fault isolation results in normal system operation even under battery ground fault conditions. During these fault conditions, the system does not go to bypass as happens with transformer-free technologies. The Liebert NXL UPS is available in many configurations, including single module, 1+N distributed bypass and N+1 central bypass, to ensure the right level of power redundancy for any critical application and Tier level. The robust design of the Liebert NXL UPS allows operation at 100 percent load under a stack-up of conditions that would require other systems to de-rate their output or compromise system availability.

The Liebert NXL UPS features optional matching battery cabinets that can be equipped with Alber BDSi integrated battery monitoring to proactively monitor battery health. A Liebert NXL System Control Cabinet is available for N+1 parallel configurations, controlling the operation of the system and also containing the system static bypass switch.

Liebert SiteScan Web centralized monitoring software can be used to offer maximum control, monitoring and visibility to Liebert NXL UPS. It also comes with the ability to output data directly to a network for integration with other monitoring systems.

Beyond the Data Center: Emerson Network Power Survey Reveals Top IT Concerns Inside Hospitals in North America

The survey results, which include responses from North America-based professionals in IT management/IT operations, data center management and facilities management, reported budget, power requirements and availability as top concerns.

Other notable results from the survey included:

More than half of respondents upgraded their healthcare facility’s power and cooling infrastructure when implementing new technologies like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)/network communications and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), showing a correlation between the importance of power and cooling infrastructure and the reliance on IT systems.
More than one-half of patient rooms are not supported by any uninterruptible power source, and just 28 percent of operating rooms have emergency power receptacles serviced through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). This lack of protection makes critical patient data vulnerable to downtime as there is no ride-through until the hospital’s emergency generators can assume the critical load.
Thirty-two percent of those surveyed had experienced unplanned downtime of their IT systems while 29 percent responded that their data centers did not deploy redundant power systems or didn’t know what type of distribution strategy was being used. This suggests that, despite an increased reliance on IT, there is a need for increasing awareness of infrastructure technologies and strategies.
Despite the recession, 60 percent indicated they plan to add more server and storage capacity in their hospital data centers in the next 24 months, while more than half are planning to update or expand IT infrastructure within an existing hospital. Twenty-seven percent plan to expand the existing hospital, while 15 percent plan to build a new facility.
Regarding cloud computing in the healthcare setting, web servers and web-based applications have the second highest cloud adoption rate at 49 percent (13 percent is specified as internal cloud), among respondents, and 50 percent of respondents plan to implement disaster recovery/backup-as-a-service on an internal or external cloud. Forty-nine percent of respondents mentioned a concern with security and cloud computing.

Highly Efficient, Scalable UPS with More Real Power

The scalable UPS system offers mid-tolarge-sized data centers a backup power solution that provides the flexibility to grow incrementally without requiring infrastructure renovations. Softscale technology allows the Liebert NX 225-600 kVA to be sized to current power requirements and easily scaled up to a larger capacity with a simple software key, which is a more reliable method than adding hardware to grow the module rating. It offers IT managers an economical expansion path for data center growth without adding to the UPS footprint.

The Liebert NX 225-600 kVA transformer-free UPS operates at extremely high efficiency, resulting in lower utility costs. In normal, double-conversion mode, the Liebert UPS operates at 95 percent or higher efficiency during typical 40 percent – 80 percent loading. During Intelligent Eco-mode operation, the Liebert NX 225-600 kVA UPS operates at efficiencies up to 99 percent. This high efficiency operating mode is standard on each system and enables the unit to run on bypass power during customer-defined conditions. This no-break mode is optimized for the Liebert NX design by maintaining power to the rectifier, and keeping the inverter energized and synchronized with the input for fast, no-break return to full double-conversion mode.

Emerson Network Power Introduces NetSure 721 DC Power System

The modular NetSure 721 power system, with 3500 watt rectifiers, provides up to 4000 amps for -48 volt systems with a DC to DC converter option for up to 480 amps at +24 volts. The NetSure 721 is easy to install, operate and maintain, with full front access and an AC input connection design that includes individual, dual and three-phase rectifier feed options. Each NetSure 721 distribution cabinet is modular by row and position, with four distinct distribution cabinet sizes that accommodate up to four distribution panels. Floor space can be maximized by installing the low-profile design atop batteries or other equipment. Distribution panels offer low voltage and battery disconnect and can be configured for a variety of device types. Up to three distribution bays can be included in the system for a total capacity of 4000 amps and up to 12 distribution panels.

Accordingly, the experts at Emerson Network Power now are frequently asked to help organizations determine how to take advantage of these improvements, especially in data centers that have run or are running out of capacity. Whats the better course of action? Should they retrofit the existing data center or replace it with a new one?

When to Retrofit

A retrofit is a good option when efficiency and stranded capacity are the major issues. Retrofitting has advantages over building a new data center, cost being at the top of the list, said Peter Panfil, vice president of global power, Emerson Network Power. Today, a new data center could cost in the range of $ 17M per megawatt, with ways to push this down to $ 12M per megawatt (for example, through UPS utilization improvements). A retrofit will run 25 percent to 40 percent of the new-build cost and in many cases can deliver the efficiency and capacity needed to extend the life of the data center.

Newer cooling, power and IT technologies that improve energy efficiency also help recover stranded capacity. Recovered capacity then can be allocated where needed.

Cold-aisle containment, intelligent controls that monitor conditions at the server and economization all lead to better efficiency by improving temperature and airflow management.

Additionally, implementing component technologies that optimize the cooling system to work more efficiently at partial loads is another good way to recover capacity without starting from scratch. Variable speed drives improve efficiency significantly over traditional fixed-speed fans, and electronically commutated (EC) plug fans are even more efficient. Both variable speed drives and EC plug fans can be installed on existing cooling units and their operation optimized by networking the cooling units through intelligent controls. Intelligent controls ensure the units work together as a system to optimize performance and efficiency.

Component upgrades such as these are much less intrusive than replacing entire cooling systems, and their payback is typically about two years, said Steve Madara, vice president and general manager, Emerson Network Powers Liebert Precision Cooling business. When you consider adding new components to upgrade existing precision cooling equipment, however, keep in mind that its like deciding when to trade in your car for a new model. Theres a certain point where you cant get enough mileage from retrofitted equipment to make it worth the investment.

Upgrades that make the power system more efficient include double-conversion UPS technology that eliminates conversion process losses, intelligent pairing of UPS modules and high-efficiency transformers. Additionally, adding a data center infrastructure management solution, implementing eco-mode on the UPS and optimizing the power path from the UPS to the servers all contribute to energy savings.

Data center managers also can employ Emerson Network Powers Energy Logic to improve energy efficiency. Energy Logic leverages the cascade effect that occurs when lower energy consumption at the component and device level is magnified by reducing demand on support systems. Its possible to achieve high overall energy savings from the cascade effect. Saving energy extends the useful life of the data center by freeing space in the data center that can be used for IT expansion.

When to Replace

While many options for retrofitting the data center exist, it is not always the practical choice. The downside of a major retrofit is that you are doing it in a live data center, Panfil said. If you are maxed out on space, its difficult to upgrade for efficiency without jeopardizing availability. New Fully Digital 800 Watt Bulk Front-End Power Supply from Emerson Network Power Features 80 PLUS Gold Standard Efficiency

The DS800SL-3 power supply has an exceptionally high efficiency of 92 percent when operating at half-load from a 230 Vac input, combined with a typical power factor in excess of 0.99.

With a high power density of 19.05 W/in3 (1.16 W/cm3) in a slim-line rack-mounting package, DS800SL-3 power supplies enable system designers to minimize space requirements in enterprise servers and similar space-constrained applications.

The new DS800SL-3 is a fully digital design; it features a built-in I2C serial bus interface and uses the industry-standard PMBus communications protocol. Developed primarily for systems employing distributed power architectures, the power supply has a wide input voltage range of 90 to 264 Vac and is rated for 800 watts output power. The main 12 Vdc payload output is programmable by plus/minus 10 percent, and can deliver up to 65.7 A continuously. An auxiliary always on 5 Vdc output, rated at 2.4 A, is also provided for powering server management circuits. Emerson Network Power Announces New Triple-Output 45 Watt Power Supplies with Medical and IT Equipment Safety Approvals

Extending Emersons successful NPT40-M series, these new models are suitable for a wide range of IT equipment, medical, light industrial, instrumentation and process systems, as well as low-power dental and laboratory equipment.

NPT40-M series power supplies are rated for 45 watts power output with convection cooling and up to 55 watts with forced air cooling. The NPT43-M offers 5, 15 and -15Vdc regulated outputs while the NPT44-M offers 5, 12 and 24 Vdc regulated outputs.

The expanded NPT40-M series carries a comprehensive set of worldwide IT equipment (ITE) and non-patient contact and non-patient critical medical safety approvals. These power supplies can accommodate operating temperatures from minus 20 to 50 degrees Celsius at full power and as high as 80 degrees Celsius with de-rating. They feature an industry standard 2 x 4 inch (51 x 102 mm) footprint, and a height of less than 1 inch (25 mm), making them ideal for 1U high portable and rack-mounting equipment.

Emerson Network Powers NPT40-M series has a wide-range universal input capable of accommodating any ac voltage in the range 90 to 264 Vac. It can also operate from any dc input in the range 127 to 300 Vdc, enabling it to be used virtually anywhere in the world. The NPT42-M power supply requires less than 74 W of input power, and inrush current is less than 50 A peak at 230 Vac input.

Emerson Network Powers NPT40-M series power supplies fully comply with the international EN 61000-3-2 standard for harmonic emissions. They feature built-in EMI filters (CISPR 22 Class B) and meet rigorous international EMC standards, including FCC Class B, EN 55022 class B and VDE 0878PT3 Class B for conducted noise.
