Technology Executive, Kevin McDonald Appointed By Orange County Sheriff - Coroner, Sandra Hutchens To Form New Community Technology Advisory Council

Irvine, Calif. (PRWEB) October 14, 2009

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced today that Alvaka Networks’ Executive Vice President Kevin McDonald has been appointed by Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens to create a new Volunteer Community Technology Advisory Council (CTAC). With McDonald acting as chairman, the CTAC is with providing advice and consultation to Sheriff Hutchens in support of the department’s overall mission. The CTAC will be fully independent and focused on technology, security issues and their related budgetary challenges.

The CTAC will consult with command and review the department’s technology platforms and strategies. The council’s Executive Board will then meet semi-monthly, hold annual strategic meetings, and provide summary reports to the Sheriff. These reports will cover the status of technology at the department and offer general comment, suggest new or potential alternative solutions, cost saving measures and where needed, provide testimonial support.

“We have a terrific staff at the department who are sworn and civilian personnel, however, with the complexity of today’s technology and our reliance on its mission-critical capabilities, it simply makes sense to seek completely independent advice,” said Sheriff Hutchens. “We are delighted by the talents and affiliations that Kevin McDonald and the council are bringing to the department. Kevin has a proven record of accomplishment in technology and managing these types of advisory groups.”

There are approximately a dozen top technology executives already applying for positions on the council. The positions will be filled by individuals who possess broad and deep professional and technical talents. The Executive Board will be populated by senior executives, academics and engineers with discipline focused knowledge and experience in software applications, network and communications infrastructure, IT management processes, accounting, security policies, security techniques and more. Like McDonald has, all OCSD CTAC applicants must undergo a full character and criminal background investigation prior to being approved for membership.

“In these extremely challenging economic times, having top-level technology professionals providing their advice and counsel for the good of the community is vital. We have some amazingly talented people applying to volunteer their time,” McDonald said. “Sheriff Hutchens understands the power of technology. She has reached out for the technology community’s support and we are all honored to help.” A new independent CTAC Web site will be available in coming months at http://www.sheriffadvisors.org

OCSD Information Systems (Systems) is responsible for designing, developing and supporting the Sheriff’s regional networking infrastructure and more than 100 law enforcement applications. The group supports the countywide Automated Jail System, Automated Warrant Service System, Specialized Dispatch/911 and Commissary and Crime Reporting. Systems also provide access to local, state, federal, and international law enforcement databases for over 58 outside criminal justice agencies. Electronic live scan fingerprint submissions are accepted by OCSD from locations throughout the county. Systems hosts the CA State and Department of Justice Disaster Recovery Systems and provides backup for the CA, DMV’s Photo system. Systems also manages the Sheriff’s state-of-the-art 24x7x365 Data Center. The call center handles more than 1,200 calls per month. Systems is part of the Support Services Division. It consists of nine units, employing 53 staff members (24 County and 29 contractors).

“We have some tough decisions to make with the budget cuts we’re facing,” said Sheriff Hutchens. “The council will help us make prudent decisions in the best interest of the community.”

GXS Boosts Retailers Drop Ship Initiatives with B2B Social Community Management Platform

(PRWEB) September 10, 2012

GXS, a leading provider of B2B integration services, today announced that its RollStream solution enables retailers drop ship solutions. GXS RollStream assesses vendor capabilities and delivers supplier lifecycle management tools for drop ship and Omnichannel retailing. As a collaborative business social supply chain offering, GXS RollStream enables retailers to quickly establish guidelines and set expectations to ensure consumer satisfaction.

The rise in online shopping has made it necessary for leading retailers to offer consumers a broader range of merchandise to compete in todays market. To keep up with demand, retailers are growing their drop ship programs with vendors and suppliers to offer increased choice and availability. Fully understanding suppliers capabilities in relation to packaging, branding and shipping help create successful programs from the outset.

Retailers interested in expanding their drop ship programs can use GXS RollStream for surveying and identifying supplier capabilities and interest in direct-to-consumer initiatives. RollStream rapidly evaluates their ability to pick and pack individual units from warehouse locations, ship to home addresses via parcel carriers and exchange the associated purchase order, inventory and ASN EDI documents. Retailers can also use RollStreams productivity tools to rapidly onboard the chosen suppliers into the drop ship programs, by delivering outbound communications, monitoring response levels and walking each vendor step-by-step through a task-based workflow for enabling drop ship. Once onboarded, RollStream administers enhancements to drop ship programs such as expedited shipping, custom packaging and gift wrapping.

With the huge growth in couch commerce and tablet shopping, there has never been more pressure on retailers and e-tailers to expand the choice and availability of items for sale, said Nick Parnaby, vice president extended enterprise solutions at GXS. To make these items available for sale and engage broader communities of suppliers that offer them, retailers need to empower their merchandising and B2B teams with next generation productivity and process management tools. Thats where GXS RollStream comes in. It is specifically designed for assessing, engaging and enabling new vendors activities retailers must excel at to protect and expand revenue streams.

RollStream supports human centric B2B activities, allowing cross-functional personnel from both sides of a trading relationship to interact with one another. From assessing capabilities and automation of trading partner agreement creation, to full lifecycle engagement and relationship governance, RollStream offers a single supplier information repository and interaction playbook. This provides retailers with a holistic view of their relationship with each of their suppliers. The product allows merchants to take a methodical approach to their drop ship program by establishing clear guidelines and thresholds up front. RollStream also includes mechanisms for monitoring the performance of the defined program as well as the participating partners themselves.

With RollStream, GXS supports the entire procure-to-pay lifecycle for retailers and order-to-cash for suppliers. Drop ship is a vital aspect of a successful Omnichannel retail strategy. Focused on improving shipping and receiving through adoption of the Advance Ship Notice (ASN) and serialized carton labeling, companies can easily adapt their B2B programs to serve evolving channels such as internet and mobile commerce. Using a cloud-style approach, GXS enhances the flexibility and agility of integration capabilities for buyers and suppliers. Its comprehensive B2B portfolio is used by more than 90% of the Fortune 500 general merchandisers and more than 200 large retail organizations across the globe to enhance procure-to-pay and logistics supply chain visibility, improve data quality and enable complex trading communities.
