New EXE to MSI Installation Repackager from EMCO Simplifies Migration to Windows 8

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 26, 2012

EMCO Software, a leading provider of remote software deployment and distribution solutions, has released a new version of EMCO MSI Package Builder application aiming to help companies and organizations to simplify their software environment migration to Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. The new version of EMCO MSI Package Builder allows companies and organization to cut software migration costs by 80% by converting interactive setups into silent MSI packages compatible with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 that can be deployed automatically on multiple remote PCs in a silent mode.

“Software deployment is the most time-consuming operation of OS migration because network administrators need to install all applications that were installed on a previous platform, configure them and make sure they work properly. Manual software deployment on multiple PCs can take weeks of software installation and configuration. Using EMCO MSI Package Builder, software deployment tasks can be automated, so that OS platform migration can be completed much faster and with less effort”, Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, says.

Network administrators can use EMCO MSI Package Builder as an easy setup EXE to MSI converter. The generated MSI packages can be deployed remotely in a silent mode using Group Policy of Microsoft Active Directory or other remote deployment tools for Windows. Installation format conversion can be performed in a semi-automatic mode using the unique Live Monitoring technology. This technology can capture file system and registry changes performed by an original installation. The captured changes are used by the application to generate an MSI package, so, as a result, an MSI installation is identical to the installation of the captured EXE setup.

Using EMCO MSI Package Builder, network administrators can create MSI packages with preconfigured installation settings, which are ready for silent deployment. In order to generate a preconfigured silent MSI from an original non-silent EXE installation, network administrators only need to install the original EXE setup to allow EMCO MSI Package Builder to capture the changes made in the process. All options selected during the installation are reflected in file system and registry changes, which are captured, so the generated MSI package includes an already preconfigured installation.

Companies and organizations can use EMCO MSI Package Builder not only to convert EXE setups to MSI packages but also to apply custom settings and configure system parameters. Using the Live Monitoring technology, it’s possible to record any actions that result in file system or registry changes and create an MSI that can reproduce and apply those changes. Network administrators can capture desktop shortcuts creation, system settings customization or other actions that should be applied during migration to Windows 8, and generate an MSI package applying those changes with just a few mouse clicks. The generated MSI can be deployed remotely to apply the necessary system configuration changes. It can save a lot of time that would otherwise be required for manual system configuration on all PCs.

Availability and Pricing

EMCO MSI Package Builder is available for evaluation as a free trial version that can be downloaded at http://emcosoftware.com/msi-package-builder. It can run on a Windows platform starting from Windows XP and support all the latest Windows x86 and x64 versions. The application is available in three editions with different sets of features at prices starting from $ 199.00. Detailed information on the installation repackaging features is available at http://emcosoftware.com/msi-package-builder/convert-exe-to-msi.
