Report Reveals Reasons to Carefully Evaluate LSPs before Outsourcing

RALEIGH, NC (PRWEB) August 16, 2012

Not all Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) do the same thing, and not all do the same things well, a new report from Tompkins Supply Chain Consortium affirms.

LSPs tend to take on the characteristics of the industries they serve, says Chris Ferrell, Director, Tompkins Supply Chain Consortium. And in turn, this impacts the way they run their business and how they serve their customers.

The report, Selecting a Logistics Service Provider: Its Not One Size Fits All, analyzes responses from more than 100 retailers, consumer products companies and warehousing/distribution companies on how LSPs are functioning in areas such as automation, distribution centers (DC), and transportation.

Many supply chain and procurement professionals are identifying and partnering with the best logistics vendors, as well as determining if those vendors can execute at an acceptably high level. Understanding each prospective vendors specialties can be the difference between success and failure, adds Ferrell.

According to the survey findings, lower costs and increased flexibility continue to top the list of reasons to outsource. Additional results include:

Toronto IT Outsourcing Provider Launches Managed Services Website

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

According to Michael Benadiba, the firm’s CEO, the new website is the culmination of more than a years worth of work, and will help clients to better understand the company, its mission, and what differentiates it from other IT outsourcing companies in Toronto. “Obviously, there are a lot of businesses offering technical support out there. We feel that it’s our commitment to finding creative solutions to technology problems, and the fact that we offer more of a white-glove style of IT consulting services, that sets us apart. We hope and expect that current and potential clients will be able to better see and understand that with our new website.”

Benadiba also added that MBC’s new site will incorporate some of the changes that have been taking place in his company, and in the information technology field in general. “Topics like cloud computing, network support, or backup and disaster recovery, are on people’s minds more than ever because they impact the bottom line. We definitely wanted our clients to know that we are leaders in these areas.”

Although the new website will feature a lot of information about the firm’s popular managed services packages including a free, downloadable white paper outlining the pros and cons of managed services agreements themselves the company is also adding information that will appeal to its growing number of specialty clients.

Chris Lamming, MBC’s Director of Sales, noted that this was a natural extension of the company’s growth. “Because MBC does things a little differently, we have become a natural fit for certain types of firms. For instance, those in the legal, accounting, investment banking, and engineering industries like that our technical team focuses on precision with no downtime. Those types of businesses can’t afford mistakes, setbacks, or downtime with their technology, so having a partner who can take away those kinds of worries is a big deal.”

Lamming also notes that these areas, like others on MBC’s new website, may change and expand in the future. “One of the exciting things about IT is that it’s always changing, and our new website will give us the flexibility we need to update products and services as they come to market. We wanted to build a tool that clients could use to get a sense of what we offer, and I think we’ve been very successful at that.”

Even with these changes and improvements, however, Lamming advises interested businesses to speak with a member of MBC’s consulting team for specific answers. “The website is a good starting point,” he says, “but every business is different, and we pride ourselves on finding unique, creative solutions to all kinds of problems. So, if you’re wondering how we can help you, or just looking for a different perspective on a challenge, then feel free to get in touch with us and well get you the answers you need.”

Medical Review Business Process Outsourcing Increasing Among Healthcare Payer Organizations

Portland, OR (PRWEB) June 22, 2012

Among health insurance entities, including health plans, medical management companies and third-party administrators (TPAs), a continuing objective is to reduce costs, improve quality, and meet rigorous accreditation and regulatory compliance standards. This challenge is especially true when it comes to reviewing the medical necessity of service requests, including pre-authorizations as well as member and provider appeals.

AllMed Healthcare Managements recent webinar on physician review business process outsourcing (BPO) provided an excellent example of how payer organizations are increasingly turning to specialty BPO organizations like IROs and delegating medical decision making functions that used to be done by internal medical staff. In presenting this example of BPO innovation, AllMed cited several important reasons why health plans are moving in this direction. In particular, physician review business process outsourcing allows health plans to reduce costs, scale their resources up and down with variable volumes, and allocate their medical directors to higher value-added tasks.

Health plan medical directors are often called upon to review pre-authorization and appeals requests, which reduces the time they can devote to the oversight of quality, compliance and clinical operations functions, said Andrew G. Rowe, CEO of AllMed. Given the compensation levels of these professionals, it makes more sense to outsource routine medical review tasks and redeploy medical directors where their higher-level expertise is of most value to the organization.

Given this shift in thinking about how best to utilize internal medical staff, leading IROs have evolved and can now function as full service business process outsourcing partners for a health plan as it relates to medical decision making. High-performance IROs have developed an integrated portfolio of services that are delivered through web-based technology platforms. The IRO can now reduce and/or balance workloads inside the health plan, lowering costs and improving productivity in ways not possible before, Rowe added.

One such plan that recognizes this is Cambia Health Solutions, which operates BlueCross and/or BlueShield health plans in four western states, serving nearly 2.5 million members. The Regence affiliated companies have fully integrated their IRO (AllMed) into their clinical decision-making operations as a BPO partner. It relies on the company for outsourcing of all physician review functions, including first-level pre-authorizations and specialty-matched appeals.

An outsourcing partner like AllMed is a really good fit for us, said Csaba Mera, MD, Executive Medical Director of Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon. It has a large panel of physicians available for specialty-matched case reviews through a secure web portal, which improves our turnaround time on pre-authorizations and appeals. This gives our medical directors more freedom to focus on higher-level tasks such as medical policy development, provider services support and implementation of required regulatory programs.

But choosing the right IRO partner requires solid due-diligence, Mera would say, confirming that the partner needs to bring together all the cross-functional disciplines and expertise in physician recruiting, credentialing, training, quality assurance and compliance. Further, the full-service IRO should offer a solution that is highly optimized and integrated into the health plans clinical decision-making workflows. In the end, such a solution must be faster, better, and cheaper than what a health plan can develop and maintain on its own, he added.

Rowe outlined the technology capabilities and platform a payer should look for in looking for an IRO to partner with. These include:
