AboveNet Connects Second Horizon Data Center In North Texas

White Plains, NY (Vocus) September 3, 2009

AboveNet Communications, Inc., (NYSE:ABVT) a leading provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions, has completed a private DWDM ring between Horizon Data Center Solutions’ locations in the technology-rich North Texas data center corridor.

Horizon, with more than 50,000 square feet of data center space in Dallas, will use the AboveNet private fiber connectivity to expand its services into its new second location, while adding product offerings and delivering on demanding service level agreements.

AboveNet’s solution is delivered over buried fiber optic cable. This enables AboveNet to provide Horizon route diversity, redundancy and scalable gigabit-level bandwidth to support their customers’ mission-critical needs. AboveNet is able to offer high-bandwidth solutions using a portfolio of services that can be custom designed to meet specific data center and customer requirements. AboveNet’s solutions are designed to provide very low latency, with the bandwidth capacity to flexibly scale as needed.

AboveNet CEO and President, Bill LaPerch said, “We are pleased to add Horizon Data Centers to approximately 400 other data centers where we offer large bandwidth connectivity. This represents yet another investment in our growing commitment to Texas and its networking infrastructure.”

“As we continue to expand our footprint to broaden the services we provide, we chose AboveNet to link our sites because they provide highly reliable, diverse high-bandwidth networking that will benefit our customers. For example, AboveNet connectivity will be an integral component of our private cloud, storage and backup service offerings,” said Lance Smith, CEO of Horizon.

Horizon clients include members of the global 1000, including the Army & Air Force Exchange Service as well as local and regional firms such as Children’s Medical Center, the Hunt Capital Group and Pizza Hut Park. Now that Horizon’s private fiber network includes its Marsh Lane facility, clients can take advantage of redundant data center infrastructure, assisting with disaster recovery and data retention projects. In addition, current AboveNet clients can tap into the network with extremely low latency and use Horizon’s data center infrastructure.

Horizon Data Center Solutions Launches Secure Cloud Computing Platform Called FlexSafe Cloud, Expanding their Infrastructure as a Service Business

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) September 14, 2009

Horizon Data Center Solutions, a leading data center and IT flexsourcing firm serving businesses and government agencies with colocation, disaster recovery and managed IT services, has launched its cloud computing solution, called FlexSafe Cloud.

FlexSafe Cloud is a private, secure approach to cloud computing that meets the needs of organizations that want the flexibility, scalability and cost savings of virtualization, but that also require the security of a private computing platform.

FlexSafe Cloud is part of Horizon’s strategy to fill a gap in the marketplace by providing flexible, full-service IT outsourcing options that can serve the enterprise client as well as small and medium sized businesses. The company pioneered the concept with its DCFlexSpace colocation model and has continued to expand available IT services to meet client demand.

Horizon says the FlexSafe Cloud delivers immediate benefits for Software as a Service (SaaS) companies, e-commerce businesses with applications that experience fluctuating transaction volumes, financial firms, government agencies, and other entities that want the greater efficiencies and cost savings of virtualization without giving up security.

Chuck Smith, Executive Vice President with Horizon and the company’s Chief Marketing Officer, says that, while the industry debates the actual definition of cloud computing, Horizon has adopted the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) working definition, with its key characteristics of on-demand self-service, ubiquitous network access, ability to rapidly scale resources and pay on a measured-usage basis.

“Our growing list of federal clients made it a logical decision to adopt the NIST working definition of the cloud,” says Smith.

Smith says the FlexSafe Cloud is highly scalable and based upon Horizon’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering. Beginning with Tier III data centers, the Horizon IaaS solution is built on leading edge technology providers like Above Net, Cisco, F5 Networks and HP. The FlexSafe Cloud service is virtualized using VMware, and provides the High Availability (HA) performance and security levels required by enterprise data center customers. HDCS currently has two DFW area data centers, providing fast, reliable data backup and replication solutions.

“We believe that the large public cloud providers like Amazon and Google have done an excellent job of supporting the testing and development world, so there’s no need for us to pursue the public cloud. For government and enterprise clients, private clouds are where we can add significant value,” Smith says. The company will also offer community cloud solutions for entities with multiple businesses.

Horizon CEO, Lance A. Smith adds, “Our current clients appreciate our highly secure, reliable data center infrastructure and have asked us to provide this service. We are pleased to extend our relationships with them, while at the same time offering an option that represents our continued charge to fill the gap in the IT outsourcing market between the very large, global IT outsourcing companies and traditional hosting companies. With the FlexSafe Cloud option, the latest development in our fast-paced growth strategy, Horizon continues to be among the leaders in the data center market.”

With Growth on the Horizon, Atlanta Humane Society Selects ProviDyn for IT Support, Strategy and Services

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 24, 2011

ProviDyn, a provider of IT support, strategy and services for small and medium-sized businesses, announced today that Atlantas oldest private non-profit animal welfare organization, the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS), has selected the company to provide services to its current location and a new campus opening in December 2011.

Expanding to an additional location prompted AHS to look for a technology provider that could act as a partner and augment its limited internal IT resources to ensure seamless communication between both locations. After an extensive review process, AHS selected ProviDyn to provide managed services, application and IP telephony support, as well as vendor management for both AHS locations. The ProviDyn team will also work closely with AHS to implement cost saving solutions by removing aging equipment and improving processes and efficiency with cloud services.

With two facilities, we needed a professional resource to help us manage the day to day technology piece of the puzzle and also the complexities of ensuring our IT infrastructure could support both locations, said Chris Slee, Vice President of Finance for AHS. Right away we felt that ProviDyn was the right choice. They came in with a hands on approach, solid track record of meeting the technology needs of small and medium-sized businesses and a willingness to customize a solution to fit our needs.

The new Mansell campus of AHS is funded by an ongoing $ 10M capital campaign and is expected to allow the organization to double the number of animal adoptions to 12,000 dogs and cats annually and total between 8,000 and 16,000 spay/neuter surgeries. Expanding North of the perimeter also opens up the possibilities for AHS to engage new supporters and adopting families.
