Simply Continuous Adds Cannell Capital, Nanometrics and Scout Labs to Rapidly Expanding Customer Roster for Managed Services

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 20, 2009

Simply Continuous, a recovery service provider (RSP) for mid-size enterprises, today announced Cannell Capital, Nanometrics (Nasdaq: NANO) and Scout Labs have joined the growing list of customers subscribing to its Data Recovery Vault and AppAlive managed services. Simply Continuous’ managed services provide companies possessing 1 TB or more of data with secure and cost-effective recovery of critical business information in the event of unplanned outages. Its services are backed by the industry’s only service-level guarantee for reliable data recovery.

With higher performance and lower cost than tape-based solutions, as well as the increased availability and visibility critical for compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Simply Continuous’ services are finding favor among companies in industries as diverse as finance, manufacturing and Web-based services, among others.

“Our customers are validating the need for a managed data recovery service that can keep pace with rapidly growing data, while making it easy and cost-effective to restore data and applications, when needed,” said Tom Frangione, Simply Continuous co-founder and CEO. “Our patent-pending Universal Recovery Platform is the first in the industry to monitor and enforce customer recovery SLAs. “

Cannell Capital Replaces Tape; Recovers Data 10X Faster

Cannell Capital, a hedge fund with affiliated offices in Jackson, Wyoming and San Francisco, selected Simply Continuous’ Data Recovery Vault after searching for a “smarter way” to protect its fund’s precious data. Cannell Capital’s IT advisor, Tim Albertson of Great Divide IT Consulting, said the company is now able to recover 10 times faster than it could previously with tape-based backup.

Since Cannell’s affiliated office is located in the heart of the San Francisco earthquake zone and he works remotely in Cannell’s main office in Jackson, WY, Albertson was especially drawn to storing data off-site at the Simply Continuous secure datacenter in Scottsdale, AZ, as well as the ability to recover this data without requiring his physical presence in Cannell’s primary datacenter. “There are so many companies relying on tape backup when they don’t have to,” said Albertson. “If their IT departments aren’t looking for ways to better protect against outages, then they aren’t staying on top of things. There’s compelling technology like deduplication out there and it can be accessed through a cost-effective service like Data Recovery Vault. Companies need to embrace it.”

Scout Labs Chooses Simply Continuous’ Recovery SLA over Amazon S3

Scout Labs, a social media monitoring and analysis platform, concurs that it is critical to simultaneously deal with growing storage costs and the ability to quickly recover their data. Steve Green, director of operations at Scout Labs, initially looked into Amazon S3 services and discovered that “throughput was an issue.” Green says it would have taken over a month to recover the company’s data.

“I especially liked the fact that Simply Continuous worked with enterprise-class technology leaders like Data Domain. And the fact that I didn’t have to change my backup software or processes made installation much easier,” Green said. When comparing Simply Continuous with Amazon S3 he added, “We could upload our data to the Amazon cloud but there was no guarantee that we would get it back. With Data Recovery Vault’s recovery SLA, Simply Continuous was the obvious choice.”

Nanometrics realizes 20% savings using Simply Continuous

Nanometrics Incorporated, a manufacturer of process control metrology systems used in semiconductor manufacturing, was especially attracted to Simply Continuous services to replace tape, reduce costs and minimize administration. “With the economic downturn, my department is asked to do more with less. Finding a recovery service provider to take this program off my plate as well as reduce my overhead costs related to backup and recovery was a high priority,” said Dave Kizer, Nanometrics’ director of information technology. “With Simply Continuous, I was able to redeploy 1-1/2 staffers to other critical projects and reduce overall costs by 20 percent.”

Significantly, Simply Continuous guaranteed that Nanometrics’ financial data was protected and recoverable to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations. “The Data Recovery Vault service makes it easy to demonstrate to auditors that our financial data is protected and recoverable. I know my data is safe in a SAS-70 datacenter and I can log into Simply Continuous’ portal to verify that all my data is replicated off-site and ready to be recovered whenever I need it,” Kizer explained.

The Simply Continuous services automatically replicates data and virtualized application images. Simply Continuous monitors the service across 1,300 points in the infrastructure so customer data is ready to be recovered at all times. Customers can access real-time status of their service, browse the actual data sets, as well as log and monitor issues through the Simply Continuous online portal. The data can be recovered in four different, independent modes, ensuring recovery of the data at any time.

AppAlive enables companies to protect and recover their business-critical applications in an easy-to-deploy and cost-effective way. It captures current images of applications, securely stores them and provides companies with a hosted recovery environment for their virtualized applications.

Venture Capital Fund invests in Cloud Backup from Databarracks

(PRWEB UK) 31 October 2012

The Company: Advent Venture Partners venture capital investors based in London.

The Challenge: To improve unreliable and inefficient tape backups.

The Solution: Databarracks was chosen to set up cloud backup with Asigra software and Virtual Disaster Recovery (VDR).

Advent Venture Partners is one of Europe’s most successful growth and venture capital investors in market-leading tech and life sciences businesses.

Regulated by the Financial Services Authority, Advent Venture Partners has to comply with strict rules and legislation related to financial information and records. The company holds confidential intellectual property data and commercial information making secure backups an absolute necessity.

Our most critical data is our Finance information , says Paul Girling, Advents Head of IT. This includes all the facts and figures about our investments which are not only very important but also very sensitive.

Our biggest concerns were the reliability of and the efficiency of tape backups. We used tapes for backup and a tape collection service to make sure our data was also stored off-site. The situation wasnt ideal. If we had a problem and needed a restore, we would either have to wait until the following day for our tape to be returned or pay for same-day delivery of the tapes.

Advents location also makes the company vulnerable: In addition to the usual worries about disk failure or corruption of databases, we are based in Central London, in close proximity to Buckingham Palace. It isnt uncommon for us to be denied access to the office because of incidents such as security threats. The office and systems are fine but we arent able to access them. Our continuity – planning has to include in these occurrences too.

Mr Girling cautiously set about improving Advents backup system: Cloud backup was always going to be a better alternative, but we had to wait until the service had reached maturity and could do exactly what we wanted.

During the selection process I saw countless different companies but I was never completely confident. There were always question marks over the software and the technology being used and I was never convinced it would work.

It was quite a challenge to convince the partners here that this was the right route for us. The business had been using tapes since before I arrived, so to move to something completely different was obviously quite a leap, admits Girling.

After meeting with Databarracks, any doubts about cloud back up were put to rest: The functionality of the Asigra software is superb and the infrastructure is first-rate.

A key part of the selection process for us was being able to visit the data centre and see that our information is being stored somewhere so secure and resilient. There are a lot of similar services being hosted out of data centres in the middle of the city but that is a risk we didnt want to take, explains Girling.

Databarracks hands-on approach during the initial setup process was also appreciated: An engineer came to our site to collect our first backup and set us up. Having the one-to-one contact with the engineer really helped and together we went through our different data restoration scenarios and retention needs. We then designed all of the backup sets. We were able to set it up exactly how we needed it rather than being limited by what the software would allow, says Girling.

Now, when we lose data, I have access to all the backups straight away and can have it restored in minutes. The backup system has really been tested. On several occasions we have had to make restores and roll-back the databases.

In the event of a complete disaster, Advent is able to restore its servers into Databarracks’ Virtual Disaster Recovery environment using a bare-metal restore. This allows staff to continue to operate from a temporary, cloud-hosted platform while the onsite problems are resolved.

What has most impressed us is the standard of customer service we have received, reveals Girling. Great technology is vital – but it counts for nothing if the service isnt good. I have actually used Databarracks as an example of excellent customer service to other companies.

About Databarracks:

Databarracks has been a cloud service provider for almost a decade, implementing disaster recovery and production environments for companies of all sizes throughout the world.

Capital Internet in Atlanta, Georgia Announces Disaster Recovery Services to Restore Servers and Data Infrastructure Online as Quickly as Possible

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 06, 2012

Companies hit hard by recent weather-related catastrophes are reevaluating the location of their critical data and servers.

Businesses rely on their information systems to run their operations. If a data management system goes down due to flooding, fire or lengthy power outages from storms, blizzards, hurricanes, earthquakes, or other catastrophes, a companys operations could be severely impaired or shut down completely.

It is critical to implement a reliable infrastructure for IT operations to minimize business disruption in the event of a disaster. This might mean moving existing servers to a data center in a geographic location that is less susceptible to natural disasters. A company might also look to outsource data needs if capital is limited and skyrocketing energy costs prohibit in-house data center expansion. Utilizing dedicated servers and virtual private servers (or cloud servers), a data center will provide and set up servers built to your exact specifications and lease them to the company.

Advantages of utilizing a data center, in addition to risk mitigation from natural disasters, also include lower costs and better performance than operating an in-house network. Disaster Recovery Services are available to get servers and data infrastructure back online as quickly as possible.

Hurricane Sandy, a 900-mile-wide superstorm left a devastating path of damage spanning 15 states with sustained hurricane-force winds of 80 mph and 13-foot flood tides, according to the National Hurricane Center.

An estimated 7.5 million people on the eastern seaboard lost power, forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate as coastal towns were ravaged, transportation disrupted, tons of snow dumped by fierce storms, flooding rains, gale-force winds and fires destroyed homes and claimed over 100 lives. Thousands of homes and businesses are still without power.

The price of the damage from Sandy is epic: between $ 30 billion and $ 50 billion, according to EQECAT, a firm that provides catastrophe risk models for insurance and reinsurance industries. Unfortunately, the damage and disruption may not be over. With more inclement weather expected to hit the same region this week, attention is now focused on a new developing Nor’easter off the Southeast coast affecting the Northeast I-95 corridor, from the Poconos to the Catskills and New England.

Careful planning of your companys IT hardware and data management operations in the event of a natural disaster can be the difference between your business completely shutting down or remaining active in times of a catastrophe like Sandy.

What is a Data Center

A colocation facility, which is also known as a data center, is a facility that provides a safe and secure environment for a companys servers and other computing equipment. The colocation center or data center is equipped with clean, reliable and redundant power and cooling for the equipment.

Data centers often operate more cost-effectively because they serve multiple clients by housing servers from many companies and investing in more energy efficient hardware and technologies to keep equipment running 24/7.

One such company, Capital Internet, located in Atlanta, Georgia is the longest continuously operating data center in Metro Atlanta and has expanded to more than ten times their original data size since the company was founded more than 14 years ago. Unlike other data centers, Capital Internet owns and manages their own fiber optic network throughout the metro Atlanta area, providing better speeds at a great value.

Capital Internet now offers disaster recovery services to enable companies to quickly get their hardware and data up and running after a catastrophe strikes.

Disaster Recovery Services

Backing up and protecting your data is important, but it’s also important to be able to quickly and easily recover that data for your business continuity in the event of a natural disaster. Capital Internet provides clients with an off-site backup and a location with space to get IT systems back up and working in a minimum of time. Capital Internets Backup and Recovery Solution is one of the easiest to use and most robust on the market and includes IT consulting work to help get servers and data infrastructure back online as quickly as possible.

Ease of Use

With Cloud Backup and Recovery Solution, you can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to recover lost data because it requires minimal user intervention, making it extremely reliable. You no longer have to worry about sick days or forgotten backups.

Affordable

With Capital Internets Cloud Backup and Recovery solution, a company can pay as it grows. You only pay for the amount of data you need to protect in a month, however when you have more data to backup, your solution will grow with you. With Cloud Backup and Recovery, there are none of the fixed costs that you encounter with traditional backup solutions; the only factor that you need to consider is the amount of data you are going to backup.

Data Security

With Cloud Backup and Recovery, your data is fully encrypted from the point it leaves your systems, during data transfer and data storage, for maximum speed and efficiency, saving bandwidth. Capital Internet offers a secure environment in three locations in the country that minimizes any type of security breach and maintains high standards for assuring the integrity and functionality of hosted computer environment, accomplished through redundancy of both fiber optic cables and power, which includes emergency backup power generation. The on-site generator has not yet been needed but is kept maintained, and the uptime is 99.9%.

Colocation

Capital Internets colocation solutions are customized to give you the perfect package; from a single server to a full rack or multiple racks and bandwidth from 1 Mbps to 100 Mbps and beyond. All colocation solutions include at least a 100 Mbps uplink with burstable bandwidth, so you have that extra speed for your busier server times without having to commit to a higher rate.

Capital Internet offers three different types of colocation: traditional colocation, managed colocation, and hybrid colocation. Traditional colocation is the most common platform; your servers are placed in our data center and managed by you and your team. With managed colocation, your servers are hosted in our data center and we manage them for you, acting as part of your IT team. With hybrid colocation, we help you develop a solution that is right for your company and may include multiple types of colocation, as well as dedicated servers and cloud servers. Our focus is on finding the best solution for you.

Colocation offers a number of advantages in time and cost savings. As your business grows, you can add more space as you need it, instead of investing in additional capital expenditures. You also save the time, trouble, and expense of hiring your own staff to operate and maintain your system. Capital Internet delivers lower cost and better performance than operating your network in-house. If you have a need to upgrade and your system is in-house, you will incur additional cost, either by training employees or by bringing-in outside consultants to help.

Dedicated Servers

Dedicated servers are built to your specifications by Capital Internet and leased to you on a 12-month basis. Each dedicated server is used exclusively by you. A dedicated server solution provides you with a dedicated IP address and full control of the server, including root level access. Dedicated servers let you defray the initial costs of new servers. Dedicated servers come with the level of managed hosting that works for you, with our team providing maintenance and upgrades as needed.
