Nagios World Conference 2012 Proves A Tremendous Success

The conference was held in Saint Paul, Minnesota and featured notable industry experts from around the world, three days of conference sessions, workshops, BoF sessions, networking opportunities, and a special evening event.

The 2012 conference keynote was delivered by Nagios founder Ethan Galstad. During the keynote, Mr. Galstad announced several new and upcoming IT monitoring and management products, including Nagios XI 2012, Nagios Network Analyzer (NNA), and Nagios Incident Manager (IM). Also released in the keynote was information concerning upcoming projects and future services. Nagios Reactor and Nagios Reflector, in addition to NNA and IM, are two projects that will serve to expand and improve Nagios’ ability to meet customers needs.

Nagios Network Analyzer (NNA) is a NetFlow and sFlow analyzer that allows users to monitor what devices are taking up the most bandwidth, which machines are talking, and where the traffic is going to, or coming from. Nagios Incident Manager (IM) is a lightweight, stand-alone ticketing system. Nagios IM provides monitoring environments with group alerts, incident history, and acknowledgment capabilities. Nagios Reactor is an advanced event management system that reacts to predetermined conditions and takes automatic corrective action based on user specified guidelines. Nagios Reflector is a hosted monitoring service that allows for remote networks and devices to be monitored without modifying or disrupting firewalls.

Other notable talks included presentations on distributed monitoring, scaling improvements, high availability, automation, cloud computing, and countless other monitoring optimization techniques that have proven successful in the workplace.

The wealth of knowledge concentrated in the conference halls was unbelievable, said Ethan Galstad, The presentations were fantastic and the ability to sit down and discuss such highly technical topics with industry experts was a priceless experience.

The conference evening event featured the 2012 Nagios MVP Awards ceremony, where individuals from the Nagios Community where recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions.
