C4L Opens Doors to New 100% Green Bournemouth Data Centre

(PRWEB) June 06, 2012

Data centre and connectivity services provider C4L today announced the opening of its newly upgraded Bournemouth data centre. The site provides 5,000 square feet of space, able to house 180 racks of IT equipment. The data centre itself is certified as being 100% powered by green energy, as well as using additional techniques to further reduce its energy usage. As a result, C4L can ascertain that its data centre is producing the lowest possible amount of carbon emissions as well as providing IT resources for potentially hundreds of businesses.

In the 21st century, everything is at a premium, said Matt Hawkins, MD of C4L. From finances to space, computing power, expertise and energy: IT departments must use each of these to its fullest potential in order to succeed. Our Bournemouth data centre helps them to do just that. Technology can be colocated here, reducing capital expenditure and maintenance costs whilst freeing up physical space in organisations own premises. At the same time, everyday maintenance and management is carried out on-site meaning that IT staff can concentrate on the issues that really matter, such as performance and security. By combining our efficient power usage with a data centres economy of scale and 100% green energy, organisations can be sure that their technology is using the minimum of power and is responsible for the minimum of carbon emissions.

C4Ls data centre is certified as using 100% green energy, provided through EDF. By avoiding traditional fossil fuels and instead using sources such as renewables, C4L is ensuring that its data centre is responsible for the minimum amount of carbon emissions for its size. At the same time the data centre itself uses techniques such as a cold aisle cooling containment and CRAC units with multiple stages of cooling, to make sure that it is using the minimum amount of power: this further reduces both emissions and energy costs. As a result, the data centre is to a great extent future-proofed against potential carbon emissions legislation.

Customers can choose multiple, full, half or quarter racks from the 180 in the data centre, allowing the site to cater for businesses of all sizes and needs. It connects directly to C4Ls own private fibre network, meaning that users will receive high-speed connections, low latency and high resiliency when accessing their IT services. Its power and cooling systems have full redundancy built in, so that the data centre can keep operating even in the event of a problem with one or both systems. In addition it has full smoke and fire detection and fire suppression systems to protect customers valuable IT resources. These resources are also under tight physical security: a biometric entry system with a man trap, PIN code swipe cards, digital CCTV and on-site security all ensure that the data centre is under constant guard.

Traditionally, London has been seen as the Mecca of data centres thanks to its central location and high levels of internet connectivity, continued Matt Hawkins. However, thanks to controlling our own fibre line we can offer customers in our Bournemouth data centre the same level of connectivity and service that they would expect in the capital, without paying a London premium for the privilege. As the UKs communications infrastructure improves, we can expect to see more and more data centres develop across the nation. For our part C4L is proud to be driving data centre development in the South of England, providing a business boost for the region whilst also ensuring that we arent adding to the areas carbon economy as well as its financial economy.

About C4L

C4L is a data centre and connectivity services provider and deploys a full range of services in over 40 data centres, including colocation, IP transit, interconnects, data backup, data storage, virtualisation, telecoms, disaster recovery and leased lines, to name just a few. Hometown Technology Hero Saves Business Data and Keeps it Green

Bakersfield, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2012

The latest BDR innovation from ARRC allows businesses to back up important business data to separate offsite, secure data storage facilities as well as use servers the company may already own. Recycling existing hardware can save businesses thousands of dollars while still securing their data and saves the environment from additional electronic waste.

ARRCs BDR Solution ensures the maximum uptime and continuity of end users’ business-critical infrastructures through real-time onsite data protection and fortified offsite backups. And, it works on hardware from providers such as Dell, HP, Lenovo and others, so businesses benefit by utilizing hardware they may already own. ARRC also monitors the successful back up of each BDR installed at a business location through a specially designed portal also invented by the company. This confirms the business data is being backed up successfully each day, sometimes every 15 minutes.

The original purpose of the BDR was to provide existing hardware a second life to reduce the costs for businesses implementing a backup solution. The side effect was also an immediate reduction in electronic waste and a better impact on the environment. The solution has since been embraced by ARRCs sister company, CharTec, a national technology training and product company. The BDR solution is now deployed and accessible worldwide into countries such as Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

We developed the BDR solution based on our own experiences as a technology provider, said Alex Rogers, ARRCs CEO. We recognized how painful associated costs such as hardware, licensing, and support while performing back up requirements for our own clients, especially in this economic time. So, we built our own appliance that saves businesses the cost of replacing hardware and purchasing new licensing. It was then that we realized we were also reducing the carbon footprint of many organizations throughout the world by reducing e-waste and giving this hardware a second chance.

ARRC estimates it has saved thousands of servers from hitting the dumpsters and landfills in 2012 alone, as well as improving business continuity and backing up important business data.

Green Mountain Energy Company and EnTouch Controls Partner to Provide Energy Management Systems for Small Commercial Customers

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 12, 2012

Green Mountain Energy Company and EnTouch Controls today announced that they will join forces for an exclusive offer to bring the EnTouch Energy Management System (EMS) to new and existing Green Mountain small business customers. The EnTouch EMS helps Green Mountain customers further reduce their environmental impact by coupling energy conservation with renewable energy. The EnTouch EMS measures, monitors and manages energy use and, according to customer case studies, can help reduce energy costs by up to 20 percent. On-bill financing makes implementation easy by bundling the cost of the tool into a customers monthly electricity bill.

Energy management is especially important for small businesses. According to the most recent Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, small buildings comprise nearly 90 percent of the nations commercial buildings and use 50 percent more energy per square foot than larger facilities in part due to inefficiencies. If you watch the news or get online, you know that there is a growing concern over ecological issues. People want to do their part to keep the environment from suffering and to make the most of natural resources. There are lots of people recycling and conserving energy by any means necessary. People expect companies to be good stewards of environmental resources too. This means that companies need to do all they can to reduce carbon emissions and to improve their energy usage. There is a growing need for every company to do their part and help in the battle for the environment. Data centers are not exempt from the quest to “Go Green”. Data centers consume a lot of energy every day to stay up and running. Going Green for Less Green For years companies were hesitant to go green. It really affected the bottom line for corporations to take steps in a more “Eco-Friendly” direction. There are so many other financial concerns that business owners have to deal with, that tacking on extra charges to save the environment just wasn’t feasible. There’s good news for companies that want to go green. There are a lot of inexpensive steps that can be taken that will make your data-centre friendlier to the environment. Here are a few suggestions. Run an assessment on your cooling system. It’s important for data centres to stay cool. It takes a lot of energy for data centres to stay at optimal temperatures. A good way to start your check of the server room is to look for obvious energy leaks. Check the walls, ceilings and floors for cracks or holes. If you find any cracks or poorly insulated areas, you have found spots that are literally stealing energy from your server room. Check for servers that are not being fully utilized. Check servers to see what duties they are performing and what applications they are hosting. You may find several servers that are running constantly that are very under-utilized. Look for servers that can handle additional loads and install several applications on one server. By doing this you will be getting your money’s worth out of the server and you may be able to sunset out a few servers in the process. If you are able to eliminate any servers from your data centre, you will quickly see savings in energy costs. Less servers running also means a less taxing environment for your cooling system. Look for older, less efficient servers and have them replaced. If you have servers that have been around for more than 5 years, they need to be evaluated. They may not be energy efficient devices. Replacing servers is not cheap, but over the lifetime of a server, you may be able to negate the extra cost with energy savings. Any time an old, resource hungry server can be replaced with a more efficient model, you are doing your part to keep your data centre on the green team. There are other, more involved steps that can be taken to make your data centre “green”. Alternative energy sources, like solar energy are becoming viable ways to power building effectively. Even if you don’t go all-out and adopt solar panels, you can still be a responsible data centre manager by following the steps listed earlier. You could also save your company some money in the process. The Caring Host is a green web host which offers a fair hosting guarantee – The Caring Host does not oversell their servers.
