De-Duplication, Compression and No Double Backups Required: AppAssure Releases the Fastest and Most Scalable Backup & Recovery Solution for Microsoft Hyper-V

Reston, VA (PRWEB) April 7, 2010

AppAssure Software today released version 4.3 of Replay, the award-winning, next generation backup and disaster recovery software solution. Because Replay performs a single application-aware snapshot spanning the entire host machine and an unlimited number of guest machines in a Hyper-V environment, customers experience the fastest backup and restore process of the entire host, individual virtual machines or specific files within virtual machines compared to traditional backup and disaster recovery technologies.

“Other backup and recovery solutions simply didn’t scale as well as AppAssure’s Replay,” said Brendan Hourihan, technology services network engineer at Flagler College in St. Augustine FL. “Before we switched to Replay, we were consuming 9.6TB of backup storage space every two weeks. Now with Replay, we’ve used just over 1.5TB in the same time period, saving 84% storage space due to Replay’s advanced de-duplication and compression. That translated into a savings of several thousand dollars per year to our organization. That’s a very real ROI.”

While there’s undeniable movement away from agent-based backup in virtual machines, people are expanding their view of backup to encompass data protection as a whole, whether that means recovering an individual file or mailbox message, to replicating entire hosts at an disaster recovery site, said Chris Wolf, a senior analyst at the Burton Group.

Because traditional backup and recovery solutions require separate backup and recovery processes for Hyper-V host machines and each individual guest server, restoring a server or the entire environment can take several hours.

In contrast, AppAssures Replay 4 performs a single application-aware snapshot spanning the entire host machine and an unlimited number of guest machines, enabling a much faster backup and restore. In addition, companies can implement Replay 4 on a host machine and all guests through a single license, dramatically reducing backup and recovery costs in Hyper-V environments.

AppAssures approach to backup and disaster recovery of virtual machines running Hyper-V is extremely innovative, said Greg Shields, Founding Partner, Concentrated Technology and Microsoft MVP. Any organization leveraging Microsofts Hyper-V virtualization technology can benefit greatly from implementing Replay 4 as their backup and disaster recovery solution.

Customers using AppAssures Replay in Hyper-V environments experience the following benefits:

Kroll Ontrack Survey Uncovers the Most Common Causes of Data Loss

Epsom, UK (PRWEB) July 23, 2010

According to a recent global survey on the causes of data loss, Kroll Ontrack, the leading provider of data recovery, information management and legal technology products and services, found 40% of home, business, government and channel users of information technology believe human error is the leading cause of data loss, up from 11% in 2005. While hardware and software errors still account for a significant amount of believed failures, this result illustrates the perceived complexity associated with implementing and maintaining today’s storage technology.

Kroll Ontrack asked more than 2,000 participants from 17 countries across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific to explain the cause of their most recent data loss, and a staggering 40% of respondents believed that human error was a leading cause, even though only 27% said they could actually attribute a recent loss to human error. A further 29% identified hardware/system failure as the cause of their most recent data loss, which was reported as the cause of data loss by 56% of respondents in a similar survey in 2005. Despite the reported decline in hardware/system failures, UK Ontrack Data Recovery engineers have seen consistent percentages in hardware failures over the past five years.

Data loss attributed to computer viruses and natural disasters remained fairly low. In the 2010 survey, computer viruses accounted for less than 7% of recent data loss incidents, compared to 4% in 2005. Similarly, natural disasters were responsible for 3% of incidents in 2010, versus 2% in 2005.

“While technology and technology aptitude continue to improve year over year, the reality is that hardware failures, as well as human errors, continue to be factors,” said Robert Winter, chief engineer, Ontrack Data Recovery, Kroll Ontrack. “No one factor can ever truly be overcome, making data loss a reality. Consequently, it is not a matter of if, but rather a matter of when. As a result, businesses and home users alike cannot rely on hope as their strategy. Instead, they must take proactive measures to ensure the individuals operating the storage system have current training, working redundancies and a continuity plan that is current and accessible in the event of a loss.”

Surprisingly, while more than 90% of those surveyed have lost information, 18% “did not know” how their data loss occurred. This demonstrates an urgent need to educate businesses and consumers broadly on data recovery causes, protection tools and strategies, as well as the recovery protocol in the event of a data loss, ensuring further damage is not caused.

“Ultimately, we want to help users avoid the upset and frustration that can be felt as a result of data loss, especially if it involves the loss of personal data, as experienced by 63% of those we surveyed in the UK,” said Phil Bridge, managing director, Kroll Ontrack UK. “Data loss is stressful regardless of whether it’s a home user whose data has been corrupted by a virus or a business that accidentally deletes critical files, volumes, virtual machines or a SAN LUN and there is no backup – or worse, the backup is redundant or corrupt. Kroll Ontrack is available around the clock to remedy virtually any data loss. With unmatched experts performing virtually any type of recovery, Ontrack Data Recovery can prioritise the recovery strategy according to the most critical needs of the customer and locate specific information on used areas of the drive as well as specified file types.”

New Research Suggests That Most Cloud Storage Firms Not Prepared For Data Recovery Disasters

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) August 30, 2012

eProvided flash drive data recovery discusses cloud storage and the need for USB drive recovery on cloud backup storage technology. With so many options of cloud-data-backup and storage it’s easy to forget all the dangers of not properly backing up data which could result in the need for flash drive data recovery. Although cloud storage is fairly secure, there’s always a chance that a piece of hardware (e.g. HDD or SSD) could malfunction, fail and require advanced forms of NAND recovery or memory stick recovery.

According to a recent survey from virtual-strategy.com (August 14, 2012), when surveying a group of 360 cloud storage service providers and enterprises, only 33% have NAND or flash drive data recovery plans in place. That means that 67% of cloud storage firms do not have a plan in place for protecting client data from requiring a memory stick recovery service or data recovery services. Yes, cloud storage is becoming the fastest and most convenient way of storing data, but as we can see, even cloud servers are not USB drive recovery proof. So far, 26% of virtual environment type data storage firms have reported some type of data loss where a flash drive data recovery service would need to be utilized. Think your data is safe? Think again. Memory stick recovery service needs are at an all time high (eProvided).

So, lets say that some type of a data disaster was to happen, what to do then? There are countless data recovery firms competing for your business, but one name that stands above them all is eProvided.com. eProvided USB drive recovery company is at the forefront of flash drive data recovery services. Countless articles have been written by this data recovery expert on the future of NAND flash USB drive recovery and data storage.

So whats next on tap in the data storage or memory stick recovery world? eProvided USB drive recovery services stands by the claim that everything’s slowly moving towards a NAND based storage platform. What this means is that the regular HDD type of storage days may be numbered (techcentral.co.za). SSD’s and flash type media are here to stay and will become the predominant way of storing data. High speed/capacity SSD’s and NAND chips are already powering some cloud servers, and this is just the start (stormondemand.com).

eProvided, a NAND flash recovery expert focusing strictly on NAND recovery as well as memory stick recovery states that NAND flash is the way of the future. Any type of USB drive recovery services such as flash drive data recovery and the advanced recovery techniques of memory stick recovery have been perfected by eProvided. This USB drive recovery firm is currently taking on data recovery partners at their Colorado based headquarters.

Datahouse Cloud Backup: Most Cyber Security Data Breaches are Inside Jobs

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) September 28, 2012

While its true that hacker collectives like Anonymous dominate the media with their high-profile data breaches, it turns out that a breach is three times more likely to be an inside job perpetrated by a companys own employee. This helps to explain why software developers and systems integrators are beginning to realize the value in making sure that their partners and end-users are protecting their data properly. Properly meaning, by having not only a protected local copy of system data, but more importantly an offsite Datahouse cloud backup copy to access in the event of a disaster.

According to theinformationdaily.com new research from Forrester, only 25% of data breach cases are the work of external attackers. That leaves a whopping 75% coming from inside the company. Of these, 12% were breached with ill intent according to the research. 63% of the issues were caused by something more mundane, like losing or misplacing corporate assets the report found.

Most small to medium sized businesses do not think about the importance of their data until they have a disaster or hardware failure. It is often a piece of the puzzle that is never taken seriously.

Not only is it important for data to be properly protected, meeting government regulatory requirements for their industry is just as important. Acts Regulatory requirements like such as: Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) are just a few that require data protection.

Most efficient business owners are beginning to demand managed online backup solutions and partners that offer the very latest in technology and benefits. According to the experts over at Datahouse Cloud Backup, the majority of their clients are seeking benefits like:

Agent-less Interaction resulting in safer, easier to maintain and painless backups.

Free software and no charge for maintenance fees.

Data de-duplication and Compression prior to being sent offsite (minimizes the data stored and transmitted).

Only being charged for the data that they store.

A data center that is SAS70 Type II Certified with all data being encrypted in transit and at rest.

Restores that are available at any time with no limits and no charges.

A partner who will personally work with you to setup and verify that your backups work and you are protecting the data that is important to your business. This includes someone that picks up the phone when you need help restoring lost or corrupted data.

Thanks partially to media monitoring and reporting of events, theres been a recent explosion in the number of companies seeking to strengthen their data recovery plan. Datahouse Cloud Backup is looking for resellers and partners interested in offering their Asigra powered system to their users. The company will not only work with software resellers and technical support companies by helping them deliver a hybrid cloud backup and recovery solution to their customers, but their program also gives resellers a way to generate monthly recurring revenue.
