A Small Business Guide to Cloud Computing Produced by Cloudserve Ltd

(PRWeb UK) January 22, 2010

Whilst more and more small businesses are adopting Cloud computing services, it is fair to say that most small businesses are still unsure of what Cloud computing is. How does it relate to their specific business sector, what are the benefits to be obtained and how easy is it to transfer from current systems? The Cloudserve Guide to Small Business Computing provides the answers to these questions in easy to understand and non technical language, allowing small businesses to appreciate the advantages that can be expected from this new and fast growing technology.

Cloud computing is a natural evolution of business computing driven by the increasing availability of fast and reliable internet connectivity and the ability to share low cost, external data centres that are already well established. It can now be used to provide the majority of IT resources commonly required by small businesses.

The benefits compared to traditional on-premise IT solutions include cost savings of up to 50%, minimal capital outlay, continuously upgraded services, reduced management time, the flexibility to scale capacity up and down as required and easy access from home or when travelling

All aspects of IT resources are now being delivered by this new service including application software delivery, email and collaborations services, data storage, online backup, remote access and disaster recovery. There is no longer the need to manage these IT resources in-house. Many companies are moving away all together from running in-house PC and Server equipment by utilizing a mix of Cloud computing services including hosted desktop and hosted server resources. A recent statement by Gartner, a leader in Technology research and analysis recently predicted that Cloud computing will become so pervasive that by 2012, one out of five businesses will own no IT assets at all!

Rather than moving wholesale to Cloud in one big leap, most small businesses will move gradually in this direction by incrementally adopting specific Cloud computing solutions alongside their existing in- house systems. Certainly businesses that have already made investment in house infrastructure will want to achieve a return on these investments. It is when business requirements change or when equipment replacement is required that adoption of Cloud services makes good commercial sense

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

As one of the best web hosting 2012, InMotion hosting offers their business web hosting by leveraging Max Speed Zone technology similar to Cloud hosting technology, which is designed to help clients speed up websites and email by 600% rather faster than other web hosts, at VERY competitive price $ 5.95/mo.

Typically, most of budget web hosts only utilizes one cheap data center. That means clients may be 2000 miles far away from the location of web server where to host their websites. Loading the content from the server in east coast to the end user from the west coast or aboard may need to be routed over 20 times, which certainly doesn’t make sense for any web hosting clients.

InMotion hosting makes the hosting solution quite different by utilizing multiple data centers and network connection peering technology. The technology is similar to cloud hosting, which allows users to get direct network connections to the web server in a much better efficient and faster way.

# Multiple Data Center #

InMotion hosting has multiple data centers in US, from the east coast to the west coast. The web hosting clients can choose the closest data center of InMotion due to the targeting area of potential readers. All InMotion data centers utilize multiple network providers and BGP4 network, which is the highest rated network standard, to prevent downtime in the case of hardware damage or network interruption.

# Peering Technology #

In addition to the multiple data centers and network providers, InMotion hosting works with some of the largest ISPs and peering exchanges to create direct data connections for site visits. Eventually, the sites hosted with InMotion hosting almost have an outstanding fast connectivity.

The peering technology is widely used in the cloud hosting solutions. The Nowadays well-known content delivery network (CDN) is developed from the former technology which is provided in InMotion web hosting.

Sharonview Federal Credit Union Gains Disaster Recovery Assurance While Reducing Backup Windows with Unitrends

Columbia, SC (PRWEB) January 26, 2010

Unitrends (unitrends.com), the leader in affordable, heterogeneous D2D (Disk-to-Disk) and D2D2D (Disk-to-Disk-to-Disk)-based data protection backup appliances, today announced that Sharonview Federal Credit Union has recently upgraded to Unitrends latest data protection appliances after successfully relying on Unitrends for more than five years. With its new Unitrends solutions in place, the growing non-profit credit union has cut backup windows in half while assuring disaster recovery preparedness by vaulting its data to an offsite location using Unitrends technology.

Headquartered in Fort Mill, SC, Sharonview Federal Credit Union began as an employer-based credit union in the 1950s. Today, Sharonview is a full-service, not-for-profit financial institution with assets of $ 900 million serving more than 59,000 members with 22 branches in South Carolina, North Carolina and New Jersey.

As it grew, Sharonview was facing a dramatically increasing quantity of data, an expanded network infrastructure, and storage environment complexity. In 2005, Sharonview decided it was time to get away from the credit unions painstaking tape backup process. Sharonviews tape backups were a hassle to manage, requiring manual review of logs to determine whether backup jobs were successful. Whats worse, there was no way to fully recover a failed server, even after extensive investment in a new tape library and new tape backup software.

While seeking a new solution with better speed and reliability for up to 1TB of data, Sharonview also wanted to improve its disaster recovery readiness while also encrypting critical financial data to meet privacy and security requirements. After evaluating its options, Sharonview purchased disk-to-disk data protection units from Unitrends. Following a successful implementation in 2006 and efficient performance results ever since, Sharonview recently upgraded to Unitrends latest technology in 2009 to accommodate their growing data store. Now with three new Unitrends appliances in place, the growing credit union has cut their backup window in half.

We were probably one of the early adopters of Unitrends, said Mark Johnson, CIO, Sharonview Federal Credit Union. Now after five years we are completely satisfied. When it was time to expand after five years, we didn’t even look anywhere else, we were happy with the Unitrends product.

Today, Sharonview uses Unitrends to backup SANs and individual servers and to vault data to another location for disaster recovery assurance. It also uses the Unitrends Baremetal recovery feature for whole system protection, and the included Unitrends Exchange Agent for email protection. Backups are encrypted with InCrypt 256-AES encryption, delivering the integrated security required by this member-focused, and highly successful financial institution.

When we migrated from tape to Unitrends five years ago we cut our backup way down, then cut it in half again when we upgraded to the latest Unitrends hardware earlier this year, said Kevin Hughes, network engineer, Sharonview Federal Credit Union. We invested in a SAN earlier this year, and are now using the Unitrends product to back up individual servers as well as our (new) SAN.

Its always exciting to play a role in the business success of our customers, said Maria Ellison, senior vice president, support, Unitrends. Sharonview Federal Credit Union has been very pleased in their ability to perform individual file recovery in minutes versus hours with Unitrends while receiving both whole system local backups and offsite vaulting at a remote location for complete disaster recovery.

For more information, please view the complete Sharonview Federal Credit Union Success Story.

About Unitrends:

Small and medium businesses have the same critical reliance on the integrity of their data as enterprises, but often cant afford the operational expenditure of a dedicated staff or the capital expenditure of replacing their IT infrastructure. Unitrends provides enterprise-level data protection, at the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry, through a family of scalable disk-based data protection appliances that integrate and protect existing heterogeneous computer and storage systems through a single, intuitive, graphical user interface.

Unitrends uses a common backup and recovery engine for providing protection for over 100 different versions of operating systems and applications. This means you can support Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, Sun Solaris, Novell OES, Novell Netware, Novell GroupWise, Novell eDirectory, Linux, FreeBSD, Apple MacOS X, IBM pSeries/AIX, HP HP-UX, SCO UnixWare, SCO OpenServer, IBM iSeries/OS400, and SGI IRIX on notebooks, PCs, workstations, and servers and on DAS, NAS, or SAN storage.

GL Conveys the Availability of its DCME Protocol Analyzer Software

Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA (PRWEB) March 15, 2012

GL Communications Inc. a leader in providing PC-based test, analysis and simulation products and consulting services to the worldwide telecommunications industry, conveyed today the availability of its product DCME Protocol Analyzer software.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Vijay Kulkarni CEO of the company said, DCME testing, analysis and verification is easy with GL’s DCME Analyzer. The DCME Analyzer is a PC-based system (Desktop/Laptop) with GL’s Dual port USB E1 pod to connect non-intrusively to the bearer side of DCME equipment. Both real-time and post-processing of the bearer signal is possible. In real-time mode, the status of the bearer including synchronization, bearer loading, fax loading and other statistics are easily monitored. In post processing mode, the entire DCME bearer signal is captured to the PC’s hard disk using the available special E1 applications for recording. The captured file is then analyzed with the DCME software.

He added, In the DCME analysis software, the software aligns to the DCME frame, and the DCME control channel(s) are decoded. The data can be displayed to permit bit level analysis and verification of channel mapping and implementation timing of the DCME protocol. DCMEs use variable bit rate encoding to create overload channels to handle overload conditions. Bearer channels are randomly selected for rate reduction. The software identifies the bit mode of each overload and normal channel (4, 3 or 2 bits).

Mr Kulkarni further added, Additionally, the Facsimile Subframe analysis software permits bit level analysis and verification of fax data sub-multiplexing on the DCME output bearer signal. The DCME Analyzer software calculates the mapping and interleaving algorithms, FEC and permits time of implementation verification.

DataBank, a Leading National Provider of Document Conversion Services, Stresses Importance of Data Privacy Day 2010

Beltsville, MD (PRWEB) January 28, 2010

Requiring a high standard of security and compliance when outsourcing document conversion services or scanning of paper files and data indexing normally associated with a document management solution, should be part of any organization’s data privacy plan. Protection against personal identity theft and unauthorized disclosure of confidential information should be a critical part of any outsourcing decision.

As the country celebrates Data Privacy Day they must not only consider digital data residing within their computer infrastructure; but must also protect the information currently in paper form or scanned digital images in document management , ERP, financial, HR and line-of-business systems that are part of their organizational processes every day.

When selecting an outsourcing vendor for scanning paper documents, engineering drawings, medical records, educational information, employment records, financial information, and government vital records, there are several important things to look for during the evaluation of vendors you might do business with:

SAS70 Type II Certification for Document Conversion Services – Policies and procedures audited by an independent third party firm to assure compliance and track chain of custody from the time documents are received or picked up at a client location until images and data are returned.

PCI DSS Certification – Protection against personal identity theft when documents contain financial information that could be abused if it falls into the hands of dishonest people or computers are hacked.

Employee Background Investigations – credit checks and CORI checks on all employees before hiring.

Employee and Visitor Confidentiality Agreements – Requirements of vendor certification as well as written confirmation of security requirements and policies for information and data prior to allowing anyone into a service provider’s faculty.

Building Access and Security – 24X7 Security by an experienced and qualified agency, and tight access controls through multiple levels of personnel identification before entrance to the facility is granted.

Employee Training on Security and Confidentiality of Client Documents – It is no longer acceptable to say you will protect customer information; you must document how you are going to do it plus educate and monitor employee compliance.

Software-as-a-Service – If you are considering an outsourced hosted solution with information access over the Web, you must be assured of an effective encryption, redundant back-up, and have a documented disaster recovery plan.

Dick Aschman, CEO, of DataBank noted; “Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of client documents and data is a very important aspect of our business in these challenging times. The investments we have made in business processes, protecting our infrastructure, screening our personnel, and obtaining independent audit certifications are focused on providing industry leading levels of security for document conversion services and data management at all of our full-service facilities throughout the nation.”

Chuck Bauer, president and COO, said; “We are pleased to see the emphasis being placed on privacy and security in our industry. Events such as Data Privacy Day bring much needed attention to how people protect their information still on paper and while at a vendor facility for conversion to digital imaging. The government and major corporate clients we serve select DataBank because of our quality and our security and compliance infrastructure.”

InfoExpress Adds Virtual Appliance to its CyberGatekeeper Family of Network Access Control (NAC) Products

Mountain View, Calif. (PRWEB) February 2, 2010

InfoExpress, a leading network security solutions provider, today announced the availability of a virtualized version of its CyberGatekeeper Network Access Control (NAC) policy server. Organizations with virtual computing environments can now choose the option of hosting CyberGatekeeper on a virtual server to address their network access control requirements. The CyberGatekeeper virtual NAC policy server establishes what policies need to be enforced based on endpoint assessment, connection method and behavior of the device.

Many companies are embracing virtual computing to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve service quality. In addition to the reliability and scalability that virtual computing offers, server consolidation, ease of installation and better management are among the advantages of the new virtualized CyberGatekeeper appliance.

One global organization was able to distribute and deploy CyberGatekeeper policy servers to multiple computing facilities spanning three continents in a day.

With the virtual version of CyberGatekeeper, InfoExpress customers can allocate the appropriate resources to meet their needs. For example, an organization with more users in a region can host the virtual appliance on a larger server, while running the CyberGatekeeper virtual appliance with other virtual servers on the same host at smaller regions. If needs change, increasing or decreasing the capacity of a virtual appliance is easy and requires almost no down time.

The benefits of a virtual infrastructure also include greater reliability and easy disaster recovery. Virtual environments offer control over backup and restore processes, and can quickly restart failed systems.

Because most of the CyberGatekeeper NAC enforcement methods are out of band, CyberGatekeeper is better suited for virtual computing than in-line NAC appliances that need to be deployed closer to routers and switches.

By offering CyberGatekeeper as a virtual appliance, we are able to give customers the opportunity to save money and provide better service, said Stacey Lum, CEO of InfoExpress.

About InfoExpress CyberGatekeeper

For LANs, VPNs, and wireless networks in organizations ranging from large enterprises to SMBs, the InfoExpress CyberGatekeeper family of products controls network access by auditing all devices before granting access. The CyberGatekeeper solution is fully scalable and interoperates smoothly with a wide range of other products. The CyberGatekeeper appliance, now available as a virtual or physical server, can easily be deployed in monitor mode giving organizations the option to remediate endpoints on the fly without having to restrict access to users.

About InfoExpress

InfoExpress network security solutions protect enterprise networks and the endpoints connecting to them. The company has provided network access control solutions since 2000. At the core of InfoExpress solution is the award winning CyberGatekeeper NAC solution, which ensures endpoints are safe and compliant with security policies by performing real-time audits and quarantining of all network-attached endpoints. InfoExpress products have received numerous awards for innovation. Is it Time to Consider a Virtual IT Department?

(PRWEB) February 3, 2010

The Buck (and IT) Stops Here!

The evolution of technology and the Internet over the past several years has resulted in the majority of todays businesses being reliant on IT. This increased importance, coupled with the expense of IT has resulted in technology decisions and personnel becoming part of the CFO or controllers domain. The current economic climate has only served to further cement IT with finance.

For small businesses (less than 50-employees) the majority now outsource their IT to a local reseller or small IT shop. The predominant relationship remains block service where the client calls when there is a problem and the IT guy goes onsite to fix it, charging for total time of the service call. The more complex your IT, the more problems you have, the more it costs you

In contrast, a virtual IT department remotely and proactively monitors and manages your network, desktop, Smartphone, printers, applications and security. The fee structure can be fixed or usage-based depending on your requirements and budget, with monthly IT and security performance reporting, service metrics and trending. Having a team of experts available on-demand is optimal in todays ever-changing business and technology environment.

Enter the IT Manager?

The discussion above is typically music to any CFOs ears reducing costs, better data security and performance reporting. For mid-market companies (50-250+ employees) outsourcing has generally been met with resistance from internal IT. That was then, this is now!

Forward-thinking mid-sized enterprises (and their IT managers) are increasingly adopting the virtual IT department concept for a few key reasons:

Cost-savings and efficiency virtual IT is generally 50-60% of the cost of the traditional model.

Expertise having access to industry-leading personnel and processes.

Information security developing an information security program with ongoing monitoring.

24 x 7 business world receiving support outside of standard business hours.

Off-loading mundane tasks tactical services like end-user helpdesk and security management.

Partnering approach internal and external IT work as team from a central service desk system.

Geography working with a service organization with a large geographic footprint.

Back-up and disaster recovery safeguard the most critical corporate asset your data!

Business applications knowledge of key accounting, CRM and vertical applications.

As companies look to the future in the new economic climate, the criticality of technology will require a new approach to deliver true value Better Service at Less Cost thats More Secure. The days of purchasing technology and related services in a vacuum are gone. The CFO now has the tools to navigate an area they once considered the black hole.

Next months article entitled Is Your Technology Battle-ready for Busy Season will discuss how to ensure your IT and security systems are ready for the upcoming busy season now until June 30th for many of us. Merrill Brink News Reviews and Opinions: Can a Translation Management System Help You Create an Effective Globalized Website?

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 16, 2012

Merrill Brink News Reviews and Opinions:Businesses all over the US, Europe and Asia are increasingly looking towards previously uncharted territories for new markets and growth. Although most of us realize the importance of having a strong web presence, there are still many rapidly globalized businesses that are not taking the globalization of their website seriously enough.

Figures from the latest study of web use by language, carried out by Internet World Stats, show that as of May 2011, only 26.8 percent of web users speak English, while 24.2 percent speak Chinese. However, 56.6 percent of websites are in English, with only a small fraction featuring content in any one other language.

Lets look first at the BRIC nations for an example. Brazil, Russia, India and China are among the fastest growing economies in the world and US businesses are increasingly targeting markets within these nations. However, currently only two percent of websites are in Portuguese, 4.8 percent are in Russian, 4.5 percent are in Chinese and less than 0.1 percent are in Hindi.

Its not difficult to see the potential benefits of translating your corporate website to these languages, but many companies remain cautious about doing the job right and maintaining control over the content, and they are right to be so. Utilizing translation management with your content management system (CMS), however, will help companies ensure that their brand messages remain clear, their corporate terminology is consistent and their translation jobs are tracked and monitored, for full transparency and cost evaluation.

For most businesses embarking on a web globalization project, there will be two major concerns, each of which we will look at here. The first is the management and cost of work on a localized level. With the use of a translation management system (TMS), however, the management is automated centrally, reducing the overhead costs and the time to market. In addition, it still allows for the localized approach, with a qualified language service providers(LSP) network of subject matter linguists helping to create a site that is relevant to the country at which it is aimed but that retains the spirit and style of the corporations other literature and online material.

Secondly, businesses are likely to be concerned about maintaining a level of quality they feel they have more control over when online material is published in English. Inconsistency in translation services – whether with regards to the use of abbreviations, the messages and tone of voice being used, or simply a spelling issue can do serious harm to a brand. Again, a TMS will provide a means through which authorized personnel can submit and approve certain corporate terminology, preferred usage information and other style matters.

Using a TMS will help any companys move towards creating a truly global web presence as straightforward and effective as possible. It does this by allowing executives to quickly and easily submit translation projects online, download status reports, track budgets and oversee the progress of each job, 24/7 and in real time.

Minnesota Counties Information Systems Achieves Reliable, High Performance Data Protection with Unitrends

Columbia, SC (PRWEB) February 8, 2010

Unitrends (unitrends.com), the leader in affordable, heterogeneous D2D (Disk-to-Disk) and D2D2D (Disk-to-Disk-to-Disk)-based data protection backup appliances, today announced that Minnesota Counties Information Systems (MCIS) has achieved reliable, high-performance data protection for its mixed Microsoft and IBM iSeries operating environment using a disk-based appliance from Unitrends.

Minnesota Counties Information Systems (MCIS) is a joint-powers organization dedicated to providing quality, integrated information solutions through customized computer applications and responsive support to member counties. Established in 1975, MCIS provides services to thirteen full member counties and seven associate member counties. With offices in Grand Rapids, Minn., MCIS relies on a nimble staff of 12 to provide the software and technical support for its counties computerized work processes, e-government services and Web-based communications.

Just like most local governments, MCIS must conserve taxpayer dollars while delivering an increasingly high level of service. Given this mission, MCIS needed to improve its data protection reliability by shifting from its previous tape backup solution, which was becoming increasingly less reliable.

For disaster recovery purposes, MCIS also needed its replacement system to include a way to maintain offsite copies of backups while also providing highly automated local backups with ease of recovery in case of disaster. Additionally, it had to be easy to use with high-quality support so that MCIS could implement and manage the solution with existing staff. Finally, the solution had to support the organizations mix of operating environments which included Microsoft Windows, Microsoft SQL databases, Microsoft Exchange Server and IBM iSeries systems.

MCIS looked at the backup services offered by a local managed services provider, but in the end decided they would prefer to purchase a disk-to-disk solution that could be administered by MCIS staff. Based on a recommendation from its solution partner, CPS, MCIS selected a disk-to-disk backup solution from Unitrends.

I like Unitrends emphasis on products for small to medium businesses, and also their relationship with our partner CPS, Patricia Lenoch, network administrator for MCIS. I have been able to restore files many times without having to worry about having the correct media. Unitrends also offers great support… always excellent, timely, and thorough.”

Now, MCIS data archives are copied automatically on rotational (archive) drives as part of the Unitrends system. These removable drives with copies of backups are transferred to a secure offsite location, while the original backups remain on the local Unitrends appliance. This is a big improvement over tape, where the media could be transferred to a remote site, but then those backups were no longer readily available for quick recovery of files or systems at the local site.

Unitrends appliances are an ideal solution for environments that require data protection for a mix of operating environments without added cost or burden on IT staff productivity, said Dr. Mark Campbell, COO, Unitrends. Unitrends also provides an efficient method for delivering both the back up and archiving protection organizations like MCIS need all from a single, unified solution.

GL Conveys the Availability of its GLInsight(TM): An Expert System for Decoding and Analysis of Fax and Modem Communications Over PSTN or IP Networks

Gaithersburg, Maryland (PRWEB) March 17, 2012

GL Communications Inc. a leader in providing PC-based test, analysis and simulation products and consulting services to the worldwide telecommunications industry, conveyed today the availability of its product GLInsight An expert system for decoding and analysis of Fax and Modem communications over PSTN or IP Networks.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Vijay Kulkarni CEO of the company said, GLInsight is a state-of-the-art system that provides promptly processed information and analysis of data collected on IP and PSTN networks. Decoded results are analyzed on a per-network basis. Alternatively, data from two networks can be combined to provide additional insight into the networks behavior.

He explained, Over PSTN networks, the raw files required for fax and modem analysis can be obtained using following hardware platforms: GL’s T1 E1 Analyzer with Call Capture Analysis (CCA) – The capability of CCA software to non-intrusively record calls directly from T1 E1 lines offers a solution to capture Voice/ Fax / Modem traffic from the 2-wire Analog interface. However, this capture solution requires the purchase of T1 E1 Analyzer. In other way, users can use GL’s 2-Wire Voice Recorder with Dual UTA – The Voice Recorder Software is primarily used in conjunction with Dual Universal Telephony Adapter (Dual UTA) hardware device to capture the voice/modem/fax data manually / automatically from the 2-wire Analog interface. The recorded PCM voice/data files can be analyzed using GL Insight Modem and Fax Analysis Software for 2-wire Analog interface and Adobe Audition (third-party application) for voice files analysis.

Similarly, for fax and modem analysis over IP, the captured files can be obtained using GL’s PacketScan – VoIP analyzer. The software supports capturing and decoding of Fax (T.38 data) calls over VoIP. Its fax decodes can be viewed in the form of T.38 call graph and call summary with decoded information for all T.38 messages received on the call. The captured fax calls by PacketScan can also be analyzed using GLInsight by saving the fax calls directly in (*.PCAP) Ethereal file format.

Mr.Kulkarni further added, GLInsight has a Windows

Supporting Quotes

We are honored to be recognized by SearchDataCenter.com as a systems management Product of the Year based on the technology innovation and affordability of Zenoss Enterprise, said Bill Karpovich, Zenoss co-founder and CEO. Our repeated acknowledgement by organizations like SearchDataCenter and significant customer deployments in large brand name enterprises clearly indicates that IT leaders are increasingly turning to Zenoss for a better unified monitoring solution for physical, virtual and cloud environments.

According to SearchDataCenter.com’s 2009 data center purchasing intentions survey, only 9% of U.S. data center managers plan to increase spending on systems management tools, said SearchDataCenter.coms executive editor Matt Stansberry. Budget-strapped IT shops simply don’t have the staff or the money to support high-maintenance systems management software — they need an off-the-shelf, inexpensive technology.
