Independent Research Firm Unveils New Study that Identifies Data Center-to-Data Center WAN Connectivity as a Major Impediment for Big Data Deployments

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) December 13, 2011

Infineta Systems, the first and only provider of WAN optimization systems for Big Traffic workflows, today released the findings of a new research report that examines the intersection of Big Data and the enterprise WAN. Conducted by Infineta in collaboration with Internet Research Group (IRG), an independent analysis and research firm, the report looks in-depth at large organizations leveraging Big Data to make better business decisions, and identifies several emerging trends that are poised to become barriers to the adoption of Big Data technologies. Drawing on real-world customer use cases and extensive customer surveys, the research also validates that the WAN is a critical component of a distributed Big Data strategy and that breakthrough WAN optimization technologies are essential for the enterprise to fully harness the power and promise of Big Data.

Prior to this study, there was very little insight into the ability of existing WAN infrastructure to sustain the runaway growth of Big Data, stated Raj Kanaya, CEO and co-founder of Infineta Systems. Our collaborative research effort with IRG provides solid insights into the intersection of Big Data and the WAN, and how enterprises need to plan for and equip their infrastructure so they see material business benefits of Big Data sooner.

Big Data is the newest driver behind Big Traffic workflows traversing enterprise networks and refers to data sets that are not well suited for traditional storage or analytics systems. An estimated 80-90% of Big Data is comprised of semi- or unstructured data, unlike the structured data found in conventional data sets. In addition, Big Data is characterized by aggregate volumes in the 100s of terabytes to petabytes of distributed data. Indeed, mission-critical data sets are doubling or tripling in size every two years on average, with Gartner forecasting that enterprise data will grow approximately 800% by 2015.

Why Big Data Matters

Big Data heralds enormous change and untapped value for the enterprise, as new technologies emerge to handle Big Data analysis, presentation, management, and distribution. Key drivers behind these technologies include:

Data security analysis offered by cloud backup firm

(PRWEB UK) 28 September 2012

The UKs largest managed cloud backup company, Databarracks, has launched its 2012 online Data Health Check survey.

Only last month the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) was urging British companies to conduct their own check ups as the number of notices it served for data security lapses jumped 48% during 2011-2012*.

The Data Health Check, which is running for the third time, is a questionnaire which allows companies to thoroughly assess their data security procedures.

Once a minimum of 500 respondents have completed the survey, it will produce a personalised infographic report for each participant, revealing how their answers compared to other businesses in their sector and across UK industry as a whole.

In previous years, the Data Health Check has provided valuable insight into data backup and security in the UK, charting technology trends and revealing the major concerns businesses have regarding business continuity and data security.

This year, the Data Health Check will also monitor how data security is being affected by the cloud and will uncover what, if anything, companies are doing with regard to data security and BYOD.

The survey, which can be found at survey.databarracks.com, will provide participants with a benchmark for data security standards in their field. It will also give respondents an awareness of technology adoption in their sector, such as the cloud.

We all want to know how our own strategies measure up to those of our competitors and peers, says Peter Groucutt, Managing Director at Databarracks. The Data Health Check gives respondents a chance to see if they are ahead of the curve or lagging behind when it comes to data security, Disaster Recovery and cloud computing.

The survey is a good way for us to get a picture of whats going on in the IT departments of UK businesses as well as find out where IT decision makers want to see improvements. At the same time, we want to make sure there is a real benefit for the companies who go to the trouble of taking the survey by giving each respondent a personalised report of the survey findings, adds Groucutt.

The Data Health Check is running from 28 September 2012.

Ends:

*The ICO issued 68 notices for data security lapses in the 12 months to 3rd June 2012.

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 30 November 2012 It is the busiest time of year for most online retailers but a surge in visitor numbers can leave IT systems struggling to keep up. Many businesses (and their customers) will be noticing their website is sluggish leaving users frustrated and retailers less likely to make a sale. Cloud services provider, Databarracks, is offering online retailers free consultancy and analysis of systems to see how they could use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to effectively handle seasonal peaks in website traffic. Seasonal-based shopping can account for a large proportion of annual sales, so its essential your infrastructure can deliver when it’s busy, says James Watts, Head of Marketing at Databarracks. Online retailers often suffer from poor performance at Christmas as their IT infrastructure cant cope with the extra demand. You could choose to buy more servers to meet the additional requirement but they are likely to rest dormant for the rest of the year. Cloud computing solves this problem; AWS uses features like Auto-Scaling and Elastic Load Balancing to give you seemingly unlimited performance and resources. You always have the power to keep up during the peaks but you arent left with lots of spare capacity when sales and site visitors are lower the rest of the year, says Watts. As the Christmas count down accelerates, retailers may be starting to experience performance issues but it is too late to make any major changes without risking lost sales. Hence, the offer is timed to take place when Christmas is over and the New Year sales have finished. Businesses will be able to reflect on the period and look at ways to improve for next year, says Watts. Our consultants will be on hand to advise retailers on how they could use AWS to keep costs down and performance up in preparation for the next seasonal spike. To take advantage of Databarracks free consultancy offer, simply call 0800 033 66 33 before December 31st to book your assessment session and report. Sessions are timed to take place from 14th January to 28th of February 2013, once the Christmas rush is over and to allow a proper assessment of how websites performed over the busy period.
