Smartenit Delivers RainBee16, the First ZigBee

San Juan Capistrano, California (PRWEB) March 05, 2012

Cost-effective remote control and monitoring of residential and commercial irrigation systems is now possible thanks to Smartenits RainBee16. The device is the first in its class to use the ZigBee wireless protocol home automation (HA) profile to permit convenient management of irrigation systems of up to 16 zones/valves. The device is flexible, multi-featured and expandable. For large systems, multiple devices can be joined to a single controller and managed by the same application. Up to four separate customizable program sequences can be set and invoked with single commands from the ZigBee controller. Zones can be set to run from one second to over three and one-half hours with user programmable failsafe timers. These and many other features give a myriad of choices and great flexibility to accommodate most irrigation needs.

Controlling irrigation from anywhere provides the ability to manage water consumption, avoiding over or under-watering to optimize plant life, and to give peace of mind. The right amount of water at the best time can make all the difference in lawn or garden care, whether in a yard, golf course or orchard. When conditions change, a simple command sent from a computer or portable smart device can turn on, off, or change a programmable sequence. Parks, golf courses, schools, managed communities, etc. can benefit from remotely managed sprinkler controllers that integrate with soil moisture and water flow sensors to optimize irrigation.

The RainBee16 uses a ZigBee radio to communicate wirelessly with a controller, or gateway, giving the user real-time information about the status of the system. A user can see at a glance which zone is active and have the ability to control or change the programming from wherever they are using the Internet or through a smart application. Smartenit has developed the Harmony Platinum Gateway to work seamlessly with the RainBee16, even allowing for software updates over the air. This is an ideal solution for primary and secondary residences, as well as for managed communities and landscape companies seeking a quicker response to changing weather conditions or to installation issues such as leaking valves or broken piping.

Smartenit has already launched a wide array of ZigBee devices (formerly under the brand SimpleHomeNet) in a short amount of time. Their quick speed to market is partly due to their years of experience in the home automation space delivering thousands of INSTEON based products. Building upon what we have already accomplished in home automation and our streamlined product development process helps us tremendously to be among the first to get ZigBee products into the hands of consumers, states Justin Samuel, manager of customer relations.

The company originated from a need for an irrigation solution that could be controlled from anywhere. Adding a ZigBee solution in this area is huge for us, says president and founder, Al Choperena. We expect it to enlarge our business into more commercial applications because of the almost limitless expandability of a ZigBee network.

Smartenit Delivers First Android, iOS, Web Browser and Desktop Application for ZigBee and INSTEON Monitoring and Control

San Juan Capistrano, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2012

Smartenit has introduced a simple, yet highly effective client/server model for handling automation via ZigBee, INSTEON and X10. The Harmony gateways, in their role as servers, take care of all the vagaries of the underlying protocols and the physical connection (wireless or powerline) to the devices in the automation network. The client application on the mobile or desktop platform takes advantage of the work done by the server, and concentrates on the presentation to the user. Communication between the client and the server is done via a lean API that ensures very rapid response and fast interaction. This architecture makes for a pleasant user experience in interacting with the various switches, sensors, appliances and systems in the installation. The streamlined architecture offers the benefits of fast response time, easy inclusion of new devices, transparency of protocol to the user, wider choice of available devices, and future expandability. Seamless control of home automation devices bridging ZigBee, INSTEON and X10 allows a user remote and local control of the widest spectrum of devices without worrying about the various nuances of the diverse technologies. “This App gives our customer a consistent user experience, more options for devices in their network, and the ability to build upon systems they may already have in place”, states Sammy Korotie, sales administrator.

The application focuses on facilitating the main aspects of monitoring and control: addition and maintenance of devices, organization of the automation network according to user preferences, and setup of automation events based on either/both time and device conditions. Simple operations are provided to go from plugging in a device for the first time, to operating it remotely in less than 30 seconds.

Monitor and control from anywhere. The server gateway is the controller attached to a router in the user environment and to the devices in the automation network. The Smartenit App can connect to this server from anywhere, assuming the user has an Internet connection. This opens a myriad of possibilities for monitoring and controlling from the office, from a remote city while on vacation, from a different continent, from anywhere.

Immediate support is provided for a broad line of devices including: whole house energy monitoring, temperature / humidity monitoring, large and small load control from lighting to HVAC and pool pumps, smart plugs that report electricity consumption, and irrigation control. These devices can be set for simple on/off control, timed actions, or more complex control based upon various rules that, when met, trigger automation events. Status of the devices in real-time is displayed by the application taking advantage of data pushed from the server when the status on a device changes.

The application was developed in a way that versions with the same look-and-feel are created simultaneously for Android, iOS (IPhone and iPad) and BlackBerry Tablet. Likewise, versions are available for all major desktop systems including Windows, MacOS and Linux. Finally, for the ultimate in remote connectivity, the same application is available for rapid download to any browser supporting the Adobe Flash player from http://www.harmonygateway.com

Version 1 of the application is available free for use with Smartenit Harmony gateways.

TURCK Rotary Single Axis CANopen Inclinometer Delivers 360 Degree Angle Monitoring

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) June 22, 2012

TURCK introduces the new rotary single axis inclinometer, expanding its dual axis CANopen inclinometer offering for angular tilt detection. With a monitoring range of 360 degrees, the single axis inclinometer provides extended application flexibility, allowing operators to easily monitor mechanical arms, such as tensioners or moving components. Its CANopen communications also makes it ideally suited for mobile equipment, such as monitoring and reporting position of outriggers, booms or other vertically rotating parts.

The single axis inclinometer measures angular tilt in reference to gravity. At the heart of the TURCK inclinometer are MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) devices that incorporate micro-electromechanical capacitive elements into the sensor that utilize two parallel plate electrodes, one stationary and one attached to a spring-mass system. Movement causes acceleration that produces deflection in the non-stationary electrodes. This results in a measurable change in the capacitance between the two plates that is proportional to the angle of deflection. All measured values and parameters are accessible via the object directory. The micro board design in the MEMS technology allows for a compact, precise inclinometer in a very robust, industrialized package.

Employing technology from our proven dual axis inclinometer, which monitors angles of up to 85 degrees in either the x or y axis, the single axis inclinometer extends the sensing capabilities to complete up to 360 degree rotational monitoring, said Marty Cwach, Product Manager at TURCK. Now, our customers can satisfy virtually any application requiring 360 monitoring.

TURCK single axis inclinometers offer rugged, IP68-rated housing and reliable operation in temperatures ranging from -40 to +70

Alike, the leading Citrix XenServer Backup and DR Solution, Delivers new Disaster Recovery Techniques for Virtualization

Burlington, VT (PRWEB) December 20, 2012

QuorumSoft, a world leader in backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized environments, today announced Alike Version 2.6, a technically rich new Citrix XenServer Backup and Disaster Recovery solution. Scheduled for general availability in January, Alike v2.6 is the latest in a series of innovative technical advances that help XenServer users protect their valuable business information with greater flexibility and at lower cost.

Alike v2.6 demonstrates our commitment to delivering unique new capabilities that address our customers real-world backup and disaster recovery challenges, said Phil Baskette, co-founder and CEO, Quorum Software, Inc. Alike v2.6 will deliver new local and offsite recovery features that build on the success of our recent introduction of Q-Hybrid, the innovative way to perform quiesced backups without using XenServer snapshots.

Key new features in Alike v2.6 include:

Flexible new capabilities for offsite VM protection. The Alike Offsite Vaulting capability in v2.6 significantly streamlines the process for saving globally deduplicated data to an offsite location for XenServer disaster recovery protection. The greater flexibility and simplicity of the new Offsite Vaulting feature will make it easy for users to tailor the capabilities to their unique requirements and respond rapidly and effectively to a disaster.

The ability to recover running virtual machines. The new Alike Disk and Memory Backup will deliver unique capabilities for preserving the memory state of a virtual machine during backup so users can restore the VM to the running state it was in at the time of backup. Alike Disk and Memory Backup will enable lower RTO and offer a new way to ensure data integrity, complementing the Alike Q-Hybrid backup technology.

New flexible VM restoration options. Alike v2.6 includes two new capabilities that will deliver more flexibility and speed in VM restoration tasks. The Alike Incremental VM restore capability makes it possible to revert or roll forward a VM to a specified backup state, only updating the data that has changed. Complementing Incremental VM restore, Alike v2.6 also offers scheduled VM restorations from either on-site or off-site data stores.

Faster Q-Hybrid backups. The recently introduced Q-Hybrid backup technology is being expanded with NTFS awareness capability, allowing Alike to detect and protect only the necessary data on the disk. As a result, the impact on storage repositories and networks can be reduced greatly, boosting overall performance and reducing backup window time.

New versatile multi-tenancy capabilities for MSPs. For the Managed Service Provider (MSP) market, Alike v2.6 will offer improved support for using Alike as a DRaaS solution. Improvements are being been made in the Alike Enhanced Replication and Offsite Vaulting feature sets to better support multi-tenancy environments.
